Hi all.

My damn anxiety has reared its very ugly head again the last few days. Not really sure why, but may well be because of issues getting hold of my normal meds. I am trying to drown it in camomile tea and lavender, lol. But what i really want right now is a bath then a lovely sensual massage, followed by someone stroking my hair while i sleep.

What helps you when youre feeling anxious?

Focusing on breathing and extracting myself if it's a situation from which this can be done.

Anxiety is a destroyer of peace. I really feel for you.

What i do which actually helps me is focus on a problem or something that needs doing.

Anxiety often likes to create problems and worry out of nothing, so then I say balls to you, and give myself a problem to fix to keep my mind occupied. It actually helps me greatly.

My medication. I’m like a different woman on it. It’s been a godsend.

Maybe have a chat with your GP if it’s problematic?

Yes, focusing on your breathing can be great at bringing you back to the moment

Excercise is a good method. I did manage to drag myself out earlier for a short walk in the sunshine

Depends on the situation. Usually I'll force myself to go for a walk.

Or I'll just msg my closest friends.

For me camomile tea,Melissa tea, hard workout in the gym.

Also cold shower every morning really helps.

Sorry to hear your news OP. I am fortunate that I don’t suffer from anxiety but I find walking helps me to switch off and relax if I need to get away from it all.

Sorry to hear that op.

I'd recommend exercise, breathing techniques (deep breath in, hold for 4 counts, deep breath our, hold for 4 counts. Repeat for a few mins if u can) meditation, journaling to help organise your thoughts. Or a good self help book, as mentioned above to support you. But most of all compassion for yourself. X

Ahh sorry you're having that OP.

I find touch and cuddles are regulating. Not always available.

Box breathing if youre panicky or experiencing overwhelming feelings..

Breathe in for a count of 4

Hold for 4

Out for 4

Hold for 4

Repeat

Adjust if 4 is too long or you get dizzy.

Write.. Anything. Just let words flow, whatever they are.

Get into bath/shower or run, brisk walk.

Consider therapy if you think your anxiety is taking over. You may need to address some past trauma. It's sometimes our wise selves indicating that it's time to look at why you're experiencing these patterns.

Soften, soothe, allow guided meditations and body scans. Google them and find a good one that works for you.

And always found a long brisk walk clears my head well and settles my thoughts. Even if I haven’t been actively thinking about what has been bothering me, I get home finding I have clearer thoughts about the problem, whether that’s better perspective, acceptance, or a plan of what to do.

Even better (in my case), golf … activity, chat, trying to find the ball, trying to hit it properly …. takes me completely away from thinking about whatever was on my mind.

Swimming and running are the other activities where I completely switch off.

Techniques hold the wolves at bay - breathing techniques, meditation, etc. Exercise is good at calming it down over a longer period of time, although higher heart rate mimics some of the feelings and is challenging.

Talking it out with someone you trust and being reassured helps

I ignore it more often than I should, or wrest control as it tries to shut me down, and carry on through gritted teeth. Not recommended.

I’m glad you’re feeling a little better OP. For me I tend to turn the music up and try to concentrate on that rather than the other things in my head. A distraction sometimes works for anxiety. It’s just a case of finding the right one for you. You’re not alone ok? Sending hugs

A walk.

Deep breathing exercises.

Grounding activity.

Music/dancing/singing.

Writing/rationalising worries.

A good rant

Depends on the anxiety level and what's possible under given circumstances

Hope you grab it by the horns.

T.

Gods Country

I was quite long term relying on meds for anxiety until about 18 months ago I stopped taking them - by far the best thing i’ve ever done! Granted the first month or 2 was abit tough, but my mind and body feel so much better for it now!

Eat decent food, there is a lot to be said for eating crap food (i’m not insinuating you’re eating crap food) but that really helped me, no frozen shite! fresh meat, fresh veg. Walking the dog 3 times a day also helps and a decent hobby (I chose Art) and reading books (The Chimp Paradox is handy!)

Best of luck with it all
