I got called a coffee snob for sending back a terrible cup of latte last week. The lady who I was later told was very pretty was very put out. Is it wrong to send back coffee if it is awful, I think not.

Its not wrong to complain about anything if your not happy with the product. Trouble is, not many do. They just don't return there again. We are a nation of moaners and not enough doers. So good on you for speaking out

We don't complain enough as a nation. People would rather not go back, instead of allowing the cafe/pub/restaurant to rectify bad service/food/drink.

If it was shit, then good on ya. Hope you got a refund or a new coffee!

We went for a family meal yesterday it was awful. 5 meals arrived after 7 of us had eaten ours. We mine was gross. I felt sorry for the young staff they really tried they needed more staff there. We use the place a lot and is normaly good. I will contact their head office this afternoon when I get a quiet time at work.

I got another coffee made by the owner who is my mate, but she did sound shocked that I had returned it.

If it was made correctly in the first place, it wouldn't need returning.. Quite often I've taken coffee back cos its luke warm. Coffee should and needs to be hot !

Funnily enough I have had poor and inconsistent Latte's in various coffee shops but NEVER at Nero's Coffee....who have always given me a perfect Latte which has been consistent in taste in all of their coffee shops.

Yup, never thought I'd say that about a large chain, but we love ours here in Weston. Young staff but they're switched on too, which helps. X

I am a coffee snob and proud of it. We are Portuguese and its part of our culture to appreciate good coffee. So if I get served coffee that is of a low standard, we don't hold back and complain.

Not a coffee but did send a meal back on Saturday evening. After waiting an age my steak arrived after the other meal was brought and instead of the rare steak I order, came medium well.

The young guy said they were a chef down, we asked to see the manager, who infomred us that no, they weren't a chef down. We were offered another glass of wine, which we accepted. After my steak arrived this time cooked to perfection. We were offered a sweet. We don't eat them so declined, saying that a bottle of wine to take out would be acceptable. Which we got.

It really does pay to complain

Working in the hospitality industry, I would agree with the above. But when we do complain, we wait until we are worked up and then become unreasonsble. I have lost count of the number of times people have lost their rag with me before I have had chance to resolve the issue. If you are friendly and calm and put your grievance across articulatley, I am more likely to bend over backwards to recompense your grievance and go that extra mile. If you just say " this is shit!". Iam going to.do the bare minimum for you..

If the coffee was sub standard for the price you paid hell no. The mark up on soft drinks/hot drinks are high. Considering overheads (taxes not included as some do not contribute)

Good on ya !

The working profit on a £2.25 Latte is around £1.98 before overheads are deducted.....

My whole family has worked in Hotel and catering, so I absolutely agree with this. No need for rudeness. If you lose your rag, then you've already lost.

My old boss had a great saying:

The squeaky wheel gets the grease!

Op - good for you! My personal favourite is a double Macchiato. 'Most' (but not all) coffee shops haven't got a clue how to make a real one, although it's dead easy - the worst culprit being a chain whose name rhymes with foster.... Lost count of how many times I've had places remake it.

You absolutely did right to send it back - specially if they were taking somewhere between £2-4 off you for it!!

Had to go all the way to Wadebridge for a decent cup!

Could't afford one in Padstein!

Costa use Robusta beans in their blend, which I thoroughly object to. Makes the coffee taste like bloody Nescafe.

Arse End of the Universe, Cumbria

Not a coffee snob, but wouldn't hesitate to send a lukewarm brew back and have done on several occasions...once in a Cafe Rouge in Center Parcs (I think) I sent back all 3 of our breakfasts (barely cooked sausage) and sent the peely-wally excuse for a pot of tea back twice till we got a decent pot on the 3rd attempt...my sister and my friend were mortified and would have just left the uncooked stuff and forced the tea down but I wasn't assertive rather than arsey and we ended up with a decent breakfast and brew and the bill was waived for us
