Supermarkets are steeling from you!

I work part-time as a home delivery driver for a well known supermarket chain. And most of you who shop online have received substitutions in your shopping, and probably more in recent months. One customer I delivered ordered 12 Beers and got bananas as a substituted item. Big difference in items and price yeah?

But do you know that you rarely get refunded for the items if the substitution is unsuitable for you needs.

Those substituted items are then returned to store and resold. You the customer still has the full bill for the shopping taken from your account, and you rarely see a penny returned for the item you sent back. Most of you probably don't check your account to see if you have been refunded for that jar of coffee you sent back. And if you do, you may call customer services, who will tell you it will appear in your account between 5-7 days. Sorry to say... NOT GOING TO HAPPEN, SHOPPERS!

I was discussed when I found this out, as I always show the customers what's been scanned back in and what they will be refunded for.

Every time I've had a substitute I've rejected and it's not been charged. Every time I've had a missing item, I've not been charged. Every time I've complained of a short date or damaged I've been refunded so its

Not all companies

Yes, I always check.

This is an extremely serious allegation, OP. I'm not sure if this is the place for it. Maybe the police?

I have had supermarket deliveries for years and any refunds have always been issued. Sometimes I've been refunded full price for something like one egg broken in a dozen and been told to keep the eggs. Once I got a bag of someone else's shopping and was told to keep that too.

I stopped online shopping when Asia wouldn't deliver my shopping as my adult daughter didn't have ID & it took 3 months of constant complaining to get it all refunded.

Iceland is the best tho, shop in store & then they deliver same night

It's been years now, but I had this happen with Waitrose - not only did I get to keep the shopping, but they popped around later with a bottle of wine to apologise.

I've always got my refunds and on many occasions I've had either extra items in my shopping or a refunded item that was delivered.

At Christmas I ordered two 1litre bottles of Baileys and they were both refunded with one 75cl bottle substituted. When the shopping came one of the litre bottles was in there but I wasn't charged for it.

That's happened to me a few times.

When I first started getting supermarket deliveries the pickers often got mixed up with units with the units of measurements. I sometimes thought I'd ordered six bananas only to find six kilos in the bag .

My mum once ordered six chicken breasts and go six kilos.

How we laughed as we made banana chicken for fifty.

My daughter had a whole Asda delivery cancelled and they took days to refund over £100 to her bank.

Luckily I had the money to replace her shopping until the refund went in, but they could leave someone without food or money.

The supermarkets operate as a cartel. It really is a stitch up. They own half the food processing companies and have companies of food technologists mucking around with your food to fill processed foods with inert bulking agents to spin out the quality ingredients.

They need broken up to introduce proper competition to the food retailing marketplace worth billions every year. Fairer terms for suppliers, fairer prices to customers and most importantly more CHOICE of where your money goes.

Most if not all are struggling to get some foods if they had what you say food stuffs would be readily available.

Is this based on evidence OP?

Purely because I know it’s not the case personally, or for any of the large supermarkets I’ve worked with for many many years

I’m sure there are errors at times.. because errors happen. But as a rule. No. They refund as agreed. Because it is a contract. And they wouldn’t want to lose a valuable customer

So I started this thread just to give people who do shop online at supermarkets and get it delivered a heads up.

After several customers have complained to me over the last month or so. One customer said to me that the company I work for (which I obviously can't name and shame so they are all in the frame), never refund, along with another. I mentioned this to my partner and she also confirmed that she hadn't received refunds from the company I work for an another.

How it's supposed to work is like this.

You shop and pay at the checkout.

The companies take your payment and hold it until the items you have ordered have been delivered.

This is confirmed on the handheld device we come to the door with. The drivers also scan the items off the van, and any returns are scanned back in prior to going to the next customer. The company gets a delivery update, this inclues any undelivered items, damages and unwanted subscriptions. And any refunds should automatically be taken out of your checkout fee and returned to you.

I’m shocked that people don’t check their bill against the substitutions and demand a refund where one is due.
