"Just as bad. A lot of ppl keep personal details on their computers, ie bank details, addresses, insurance details etc etc Which makes it easy for an identity theft!" Only those with no brains surely ????

"They can try and break in either, bugger all worth nicking. Not sure having my PC hacked would actually be a problem, as nothing of value in it." You said that and it is what I used to think, too. What about somebody stealing your ID...accessing your bank account etc though?

If you use a secure connection ie https there are other programms like ssl strip which take out encryption and leave you exposed.

"Never use any site you haven't actually typed into the search bar. Clear the memory cache after every use. Never store/save passwords." I used to think that was good internet and security hygiene. Sadly it is not sufficient anymore.

Trust no one that wasnt at your wedding, to use your PC.

" Ideally use a VPN (Virtual Private Network) which encrypts all traffic at the data level - means it does not matter what software you are using your pc is safe and encrypted at 256 bit.

"Having been the victim of a PC being rendered useless due to virus attack, I want to do the perpetrator a great deal of harm, but will never know who it was." You know that was my thought behind the thread when I started it. It really p***** me off when people have the audacity to attack. To me it is an act of crime. Quite literally.

I think there is a slow change in attitude as people become more IT savvy they also begin to relaise the importance of becoming IT security savvy.

"No-one will ever be able to do any damage to me financially if they hack my comp, as neither of us do online banking. Given the level of ability out there, its only a matter of time before a huge "cyber-robbery" happens, in fact it probably has happened but the banks keep it quiet. " Indeed

"If anyone's seriously worried, there's a guy on here who is my IT support, but his company are 'ethical hackers' who are paid to break into personal and company accounts etc. He recently helped me out as I use social networks, banking and 3 websites. I'm now as safe as I can be. As he says, the only secuity risk now is the 'pink, wobbly thing that sits in front of the computer'!" That is helpful indeed. And it is that kind of experience and knowledge that is needed.
