If you could take

A pill that puts you in a simulated life where nothing ever goes wrong, you live the best life you could ever imagine, nothing gets boring, there's no heartache, no pain and everything you do is as exciting the 100th time as it is the 1st and once you are in that simulation you don't realise it, you have no recollection of life before.

Would you do it?

"No. How boring that would get. "

It wouldn't get boring, I know in real life it would. But the simulation is designed specifically that you wouldn't. You would only experience joy. No pain, no boredom.

How would you know it was joy if you don't have the sadness to compare it with?

You are thinking from a real life perspective. This isn't real life, its a simulation.

The point of it isn't to use any knowledge from the real world to argue the validity of the simulation.

The point of the question is to see if you would choose the fake reality full off joy that you know will be fake before you enter (but not after) over a real life with the pain that's involved.

Or would you rather live a real life?

Who wants to live a simulation? Apart from those regularly taking drugs/ alcohol to escape reality. I guess that's similar.

You don't hold prior knowledge in the respect of knowing you went into the simulation. But you still speak English and know what a car is.

It would be like waking up tomorrow and everything is just perfect.

"For my kids safety, as the uk or the young is in a hate and weapon fuelled lifestyle atm, yes in a heartbeat."

Your kids remain in the real world.

You could give them the same pills but you wouldn't realistically be together, you will believe you are when you are all in the simulation, but in reality you would all be asleep together in the same room living your own simulations separately.

So you know that you are taking this pill and leaving your children behind.

This is actually based on an old philosophical question I believe.

My memory is just too shit to remember who's said it and all the exact details.

Why wouldn’t you?

Genuinely can’t think why anyone wouldn’t

Go into a life that’s just better, with just a pill?

Isn’t the question meant to have a negative side of the coin so it’s hard to answer?

Well, there are people saying "why wouldn't you" and people saying why would you"

So the people saying "why would you" see a negative.

The negative is that it isn't actually real, you know this going into it. Would you be willing to leave a reality with real feelings and real emotions, real pain, real pleasure, real people, real connections, real intimacy, leave all your loved ones behind.

To go into a world you know isnt real?

You won't know it isn't real when you are in there, but before you go in there you know you will be choosing an artificial existence over a real one.

(Don't mention that we might already be in a simulation)

Just take it as this world is real.

I’d ask how they know this world is real?

The scenario is us going into a world where everything is good. We don’t have knowledge we’re in a fake world.

How do we know we aren’t in a wish.com version of that now? How we feel now (this is the real world) is exactly how we would feel after taking the pill

If anyone’s had something truly bad happen to someone they love, they’d pick taking the pill for themselves and everyone they love.

The same way I’d hope we all want our friends, family and loved ones to go to heaven when they pass away. This pill is that. Early access to heaven

That was my thinking! But there's definitely times when my mind is like 'shit I can't take much more'. Wonder how that would compute in a pain free/ joy only world

So are they conscious voiced desires? Or do we remain controlled by our subconscious?

I think folks would be surprised by how much they subconsciously need and desire drama, sadness, calm, stillness, anger. A full range of emotions and the human experience. Without them there is no growth.

It's a very recent human belief that emotions can be negative (from an evolutionary ti_eline). Just because they feel bad for a while doesn't mean they don't have a positive purpose.

No pills for me thanks.
