My parents are coming up tomorrow... And I am cooking lunch for them however I have no ideas what to cook them....!!

if you dont see them often and they not staying too long - do something today that you can sling in the oven tomorrow so youre not tied to the kitchen - shepherds pie, lasagne - bognese - curry -

SO... pudding is a packet of choc chip cookies alternatley dipped in sherry and very strong cold coffee, stacked along a plate and covered in whipped cream, with grated choc on top. I defy any mum or dad not to like it.

I cooked for my ex's parents once (ONLY once!!). Spent hours slaving over something very nice and reasonably French influenced, only to be told when we all sat down to eat that 'we don't like all this messed-about-with foreign stuff'... One was gutted......

They got whatever was on special in ASDA's after that..... ungrateful old gits ...

Nah my parents eat most things... my dad hates pasta but will eat it if given as he is not one to say he dont like it... He can't have peppers as it gives him headaches... They aint fussy like that...

For afters can get from super market crumble mix ... pick a fruit apple maybe ... tin peaches thay work too and cream ..... so easy. I at time put hand full almonds in mix too .

For starter, something that I can make in advance, such smoked salmon or smoked mackerel "pate" made with cream cheese.

For dessert, again, something that I can make in advance, such as Tiramisu or chocolate mousse.

For a Sunday lunch I'd do 5 hr slow cooked lamb. Means you just need to bung it in the one in the morning and then do a bit of veg to go with it when it's nearly ready.

Well, you could either go for the 'let's surprise them' route and do something they won't be expecting (I am assuming this is a Mother's Day thing?), or go for the predictable, but go a bit over the top.

Like the idea someone said about stew and dumplings. Just make it a more modern 'take' on it - maybe individual ones with some slightly different veggies??? Or, if you really feel like it, Beef (or salmon) Wellington..??

A marinade made with lime (or lemon) juice, chopped garlic, and parsley, salt and pepper.

Some chicken fillets. Make a pocket and stuff with sun dryed tomatoes,garlic,and a little of you fav cheese. Wrap in Parma ham. Brown them in a pan then stick in the oven to finish. Serve with some home made wedges and salad.

stick a couple of onions up it and cover it with a basting of olive oil, garlic, honey, pepper and salt. yummy

Cheat. Get a precooked whole chicken from Sainsburys and then all you have to do is the potatoes, veg, stuffing and gravy. Follow that up with the simplest of desserts: profiteroles.

Job done.
