know they’re being trolls?

Like the old question do mad people know they’re mad?

Do you think those on fab deliberately post to be a social hand grenade? Or just to be outlandish and ruffle feathers? Or do you think they are just being themselves and have no idea their behaviour is irritating?

To finish the phrase, I don't think everyone who has a different view is stupid. Just - some internet places have a particular bent and not everyone holds that view.

I'm not going to march into a Tory subreddit and start spouting off because I clearly don't belong there, but I'm not trolling in a political thread on Fab just because most of the other posters happen to be Tories. I just disagree with them.

Yes.

While there may be some who could be accused of being a troll through ignorance, they learn and grow.

The rest just troll on purpose

They know their targets and rarely miss so yes they are self aware.

They aren't always wrong so they can often be more aware than those biting back.

Trolling isn't all about grenades and they aren't all temporary additions.

Some live here permanently spamming and trolling to their hearts content.

Trolls do yes. Trolling is intentional.

Not every called a troll is actually a troll. Trolling is the purpose of intentionally causing chaos to laugh off the carnage. They do it to get a reaction.

Some people genuinely feel and believe some things they say on the internet. Just because it's not what you like or may even be a vile view does not make them a troll. They are giving their honest opinion in a discussion/argument. Even if it's controversial does not make it trolling.

Point being, to be a troll you know full well what you are doing and why. Knowing and intent is the very nature of a troll

All over

I can't be bothered scrolling back but someone did say rightly that there is often confusion vetween trolling and consesual banter. The latter is fun. Anything else is unacceptable if it is at the expense of others and I am not talking about differing opinions. Intentional trolling, even if not apparent immediately, it soon becomes apparent. The problem is that the type of person who does that will rarely change to adjust to the mood of their audience. They do temporarilly retreat eventually even after some intervention from their cronies to rescue them. I am here to pass the time not to cause discomfort to others. Some seem to enjoy it and I leave them to it and their games. There are only a few of those. The majority of people on here are decent enough and that's just fine by me.

Anyone can troll, it just depends if you can be bothered looking at the post you've just written or in fact listening to what is said back.

You could speak to the wrong person on the right day you'll get a bad answer, speak to the right person and things go on as normal. There's no accounting for people.

I think many just see themselves as stimulating debate, stirring up some life, or "telling it like it is". Then you get those people who are genuinely obnoxious and enjoy getting a rise out of people. These are the sort who like to "own the libs", for example. Unfortunately, there are too many of them.

Anyway, it often comes down to context, as someone else mentioned.

Them's my thoughts.

Indeed. This is where people mislabel trolls. The troll spectrum ranges from funny (to some) mischief makes (me! ) to downright intentional shit sitting want to watch the world burn bullies.

But it all stems from enjoyment of intentional chaos and seeing the reactions.
