"It's Kate's Mom's birthday today and we've a candle for her. She died 16months ago but she's still with us. She's in a box on our window sill. Kate says she don't want her to go just yet " I think its fine and it helps to keep her close to her mum ... I understand she is not ready to move them .

Having such a discussion on this site, yep, a little weird." Where do you suggest they have this discussion ? As for the OP. Not particularly weird, a friend of mine had done the same thing. It's not something we would do though.

" Oh I don't know, somewhere you can discuss sensitive personal issues like grief and the like with an avatar responding that's a little more serious than wonky cocks.

Kate says she don't want her to go just yet " Kate will make her decision on when to let her mum go in her own good time. In the meantime, it doesn't cost you anything at all to have her mum's ashes in your house - it's just a box of dust as the person it represents is ever present in Kate's heart and mind, isn't she.

"I would feel wierd that someone would keep my ashes on a windowsill and not scatter me to the wind which is what I would wish. I believe the body is a functional gene carrier with a sell by date but the soul is eternal. " I remember a story from a couple of years ago whereby a scientist wanted to confirm if we have a soul or not by having himself weighed at the moment of his death. It involved him being sealed into an airtight container when he only had moments to live and then the entire box was weighed, then the moment he expired he would be weighed again. His theory was that if we had souls and his left his body it would register even a tiny loss in his overall weight. I believe the experiment wasn't approved and thus the question over whether we have a soul or not is still unanswered. Interesting theory though.

Whats interesting is that someone actually thought that the soul was something that would weigh something, no matter how minute. Surely if we have a 'soul' it would not be in a form that could be 'weighed'? Sometimes I confuse myself.

"i respect kate for that, my hubby wants his ashes scattered in blackpool, thats his wish and thats what i will do (god forbid not for a long long while yet)" We threw my nan and gramps off the end of Central Pier in Blackpool. It was a place they loved and spent many happy holidays together. My nan kept my grandads ashes in an urn that went everywhere with her.
