Maintaining libido/ interest after 50

couple, us we him her.

Right here's the thing for many people by the time they reach this age most couples and fair few singles have had a long sex life and "generally" done all the fucking.

Unless you have come out of a long sexless relationship and you're on a voyage of discovery and a sexual awakening.

Or if you have been single and not had many fucks.

We have been together 37years and on average taking away illness and pregnancy we have been having sex together 5/7 days a week for that many years do the math that's alot of fucking.

Started swinging about ten years ago, ticked most of the boxes.

Being realistic staying Horny over 50 is difficult hormonal changes, priorities change and medical issues.

There's lot's of bravado on here people bragging but truth is keeping it going is tough.

It's not that we want to stop because the desire is still there.

Aiming this question at people over 50 who will answer honestly without braggy bravado (men) how has your libido been since passing the big 50?

Have your priorities changed to become more family orientated, energy levels, and comfort levels.

Not to mention physical changes in that it's so much harder to maintain a good physical appearance now.

Work seems harder and more physical now than ever plus day to day stress.

Lot's of questions, hopefully this is a proper discussion that can engage rather than the usual " what's your favourite...." thread

I had all the same issues at 30, had hormone levels tested and came back as testosterone being low, might be worth at least getting tested to rule it out (if it’s the male half of the couple writing this post thst is) hormone levels naturally decline as we age but even more so in modern day. Might be hard finding a endo willing to prescribe trt at 50 though might have to go private

For me the difference was night and day made my life worth living again

Not over 50 so I can’t talk on that

But if you are a guy over 50, talk to your doctor about TRT

There’s still a lot of negativity around TRT in this country but it’s a medicine like any other and if your levels are low it’s easy to fix and can boost energy and libido

Wherever I lay my hat

I became single at 50 after a 26 relationship where we didn't have a lot of sex. I was menopausal so assumed I had a naturally low sex drive that would rapidly diminish. However, for me it was a new lease of life and the beast was unleashed. I have had more sex - and the best, most primal and uninhibited sex - since hitting 50.

Kudos to you guys OP: I guess that is the dream for many of us

I still love sex and have a reasonably high sex drive but nothing like my 40s. I won’t jump in the car to meet a stranger anymore - a good movie and meal is usually more appealing - I only want sex with people I know well. I won’t do orgies or groups anymore , it’s all been done and I’ve no interest in doing it all again.

I worked out some numbers for my 40s recently with a friend on here , as a bit of a laugh and it’s crazy. It was a huge amount of fun, but it’s truly done.

One thing I’ve really noticed change is repeating and recovery time. It’s still there but not all the time or with anyone like it used to be. Sane with quick sex , it happens but is rare.

Well I always had a weird, wild, adventurous and wonderful sex life.

About 3 and 1/2 years ago I had an epiphany. I had done everything I ever wanted to do numerous times so decided I didn't need to have sex anymore so became celebrate and I've never had a sexual thought since. I was about 55 and I will be 59 in march

Perhaps privately mate the nhs is notoriously hard to get prescribed trt I was refused as both tests were below normal but second one was marginally higher so was told we will test again in 12 months. I just went self administered route bottle of test is 17 quid lasts 20 weeks at trt levels it’s pennies mate

As far as I was aware, the studies I’ve seen, TRT can help with type 2

Obviously it’s something everyone should discuss with their doctor, but as posters above have said, NHS doctors are still miles behind on giving men the medicine they need

"

How has your libido been since passing the big 50?

"

Generally much about the same. There have always been ups and downs – that’s what life throws at you.

For about 20 years I have kept my testosterone blood levels in the same range as those of a 30-year-old man’s.

I have a first class diet, including a wide range of supplements.

I exercise regularly – at least 30 minutes every day except Sunday.

I don’t remember my birthdays, and I don’t know old I am. When asked, I say: “Just past 29”.

The testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) is very difficult and dangerous. Testosterone metabolised in the stomach damages the liver. Doctors and specialists in this country don’t regard the decline of men’s’ sex hormones with ageing as being something requiring intervention.

I used to buy a year’s supply of “Andriol” testosterone replacement capsules during my annual visits to Bangkok, and get my blood tests done by an endocrinologist there. The visits were stopped by Covid-19, and Andriol caps. are no longer produced.

I currently buy “Testosign 40” on line from Singapore, and get some of the blood tests done by my doctor every year.

So far, it’s working – I’m past 50, and still slim, fit, and have no grey hair. I have plenty of get-up-and-go, and I’m never sick, except for a cold maybe every year or two. That’s why I always lie about my age.

It costs time and money, but I reckon that good health is priceless.

I would definitely agree that a day's work is much harder for me. I start at 9, have lunch, and really want to do nothing past 3.30, just haven't got the mental or physical energy for it. And working late, forget that. My body can't handle that any more. If my job were sex, that would be different, but it's not! Also, alcohol the night before will have much more effect on me now than it did in my 30's, so for a great day I need to avoid it the night before.

As a single woman over 50, I go through periods of drought in my sex life. So libido isn’t really an issue, because when ‘the sex’ finally happens, it’s usually the ripping off of the clothes and getting flung about the bedroom primal type.

I guess in my case the non sex makes the sex amazing, if that makes sense.

Reiterate TRT. Changed my life your levels will lower over time OP. And what a GP considers normal for your age is all fine and dandy but TRT takes them back up a bit more.

My GP was so understanding on the issue and happily prescribed me it and I feel so much better not just from a sex drive perspective. Mentally it lifts you.

It’s a bit of a postcode lottery sadly.

Haha those over the counter test boosters often have for more worse side effects than testosterone any oral is far harsher on the liver than injectable testosterone which bypasses the digestion system

I've never had a high sex drive and I have never had sex more than twice in one week at any stage in my life.

I was 25 when I first had sex.

I've gone 10 years throughout my entire 40s without having sex or any form of sexual contact at all.

I only joined fab when I was 52 with virtually no experience in comparison to the majority on here but I've never been like a kid in a sweet shop.

I don't need sex or yearn for it but I enjoy it in the moment so I've never given any thought or consideration to where my libido is at any particular time.

It's not something I've had to maintain.

Libido levels are still decently up there, my ability to stay awake long enough, not so much!

I think it can come down to your partner. If you still act sexy with each other then it’s an easy thing to keep going

"

Yes. This is very important.

The Andriol and Testosign 40 capsules do not dissolve in the stomach. The testosterone passes into the blood-stream through the small intestine walls, and misses the liver. But it is important to have regular blood tests to check that this is happening.

The standard set of UK blood test s is called a “CBC” (complete blood count) panel. It should include:

A testosterone test. Probably “free” – check that the “normal range” is the same every time.

Some sort of hepatic test – for liver function.

A PSA test (Prostate-Specific Antigen) to check for prostate cancer, which can be made worse by testosterone.

Warning.

1. Do not start using TRT if you have anything wrong with your liver. Consult your specialist first.

2. Do not start using TRT if you have any sort of prostrate cancer. Consult your specialist first.

3. Do not eat testosterone in any tablet, pill or powder form that will dissolve in your stomach. You will damage your liver.

I have written a 3-page guide which I will send by PM or email to anyone who is interested.

Very interesting discussion. I'm over 70 and still think about sex every day (and dream about it too). I was knocked sideways by the hormone therapy I had for prostate cancer four years ago which made me lose all my libido but recovered when it stopped, but the subsequent radiotherapy reduced my testosterone output so I have to use Viagra now to sustain my erection. It would be risky to take TRT in my condition. So I'm not sure where my libido would be if I hadn't had the cancer but I can still perform perfectly well maybe every couple of days, so that seems fine to me as there are a few other things to do in life.

I went a long period where sex wasn’t on the agenda and I sort of bumbled through life a bit, work, things I needed to do, struggling on, that sort of thing.

My life changed radically over four years ago and six months after that I got talking to a woman and six months after that we met.

It was tempestuous, passionate and amazing every time we met. Just couldn’t keep hands off each other and felt right.

Unfortunately I was here, she was elsewhere and distance and timing made it tough and she ended it after over a year.

I’ve went to things in the past year, pretty nervous at first, but it’s helped my confidence to know I’m actually okay, actually enjoy it and it all works. I don’t want to go back to before last year.

I am 69. Now a widower for few years. Yes I can still get erections , given correct stimulus . This now more so if with female. Not porn . The most difficult thing is finding female at my age. Yes on here plus other sites. So just keep trying and hope to find a female yes who is happy to be with someone my age.

Would not dream of bragging but my libido is ok for a man of my age.

My last sexual encounter was pretty good in so far I was able to repeat twice. I will say however the propensity to hit the ceiling on ejaculation has diminished!

I wouldn't say that my libido has dropped because I have to do the needful every day, but certainly priorities have changed due to personal circumstances. Since taking on the role of primary carer for my mum who has vascular dementia and athrites in both knees leaving her virtually wheelchair bound, playing outside the local area, or in the evenings, or accommodating at this place are not options right now. My mum is not going to be hived off into a care home to vegetate. However, but because I've been there, seen it, done it, got the tee shirt, worn it, and put it in the bin as far as erotic adventures are concerned, I can comfortably take a back seat for the moment without feeling in any way frustrated.

Great topic.. I'm loving reading all the responses.

I'd say all my life I've been lucky to have found sensual, interesting, gorgeous, kinky, adventurous sex and connections.

I've had a long relationship which was abusive and sexless. I've had horrors too in my younger years.

I'm ENM now and am so grateful to be still exploring and discovering.

My orgasms are richer and more varied. Physically, I'm still pretty fit and active and sex is ongoing, regular, great.

The difference being a woman at 50 is that hormones can be intense at any time.. Unpredictable crashes and surges. Rather than the predictable cycles of pre menopausal times.

I can have unpredictable bleeding which is a little off putting for swinging lifestyle.

But I am still adventuring and totally enjoying my getting older, slightly fatter body which has tons of pleasure to have and give!

I sometimes don't like how things are looking and changing. The softness. Fat storage is different.. It's harder to gain muscle.. But Im not going to let that stop me from accessing the endless pleasures and measures of sexysensualfuckfestival

pleasureseeking connectivity and kinkery that there is to be had!

I’m 57 and I’ve slowly worked out the aspects of my lifestyle that influence my libido. For me it’s a combination of several things; healthy eating, regular age related exercise, getting plenty of sleep and generally taking some me time. All of these things together have meant that my libido is strong. If I fall behind on any of them like over Christmas and general over indulgence then I can feel my libido isn’t as high as it should be.

Another one praising TRT. My libido was low as was energy levels. I used a private London clinic and it's really made a difference. Cream applied to scrotum twice a day. I'm looking for alternatives though as it's very expensive and there must be a cheaper route...

Any advice on this guys would be appreciated, from those that have already sourced it cheaply
