I used to go in my teens to a chippy, but I'd get these potato wedge type things with a coating instead of chips

Does anyone remember the name? Did anyone used to eat them lol?? Or just me

It's been bugging me all day

Wedge shaped yes, not battered, coated yes but not like KFC style, deep fat fried, I'm unsure

Yeh, mushy peas in fish batter. Dip that bad boy in gravy, and it’s everything a growing boy needs after a few beers

For anyone, on the off chance, that posts that's from Belvedere, the chippy is on Parsonage Manorway lol and it's over 20 years since I went toothed chippy but it's called the Frying Pan

Maybe it's a regional thing

I've looked at scallops, fritters, they are fried

These things were not, they were more a mashed potato inside with a powdery crispy coating but not oily like they were fried.

I'm phoning the chip shop in belvedere tomorrow lol that's gonna be weirdest phonecard they'll ever receive

I remember about 30 years ago getting these things that were half potatoes with a seasoned covering of some kind. Used to get them in Birmingham, close to the city centre if I recall, and was just thinking about them too, recently.

Never saw or seen them anywhere else except for there, and then.

I phoned the frying pan . Spoke to the owner of 35 years lol They've always called them wedges but they are a homemade powdered coating of spices(secret recipe) and flour on half size cut potatoes that are boiled, rolled and 30 second shallow fried, constantly turned to only sear the coating on.

I don't remember asking for wedges, but then I used to walk up to the counter and ask for 4 and they knew what I wanted

I am now happy I've solved it and gonna try and make my own version

My dad used to pull over, and he'd buy them for us. He always called them wedges. They were definitely coated in a seasoned flour type coating. I know exactly the things you're talking about.
