If the roles were reversed

If the roles were reversed and society were matriarchal instead of patriarchal, how this website would have looked like? In a matriarchal society, would women be constantly sending strange pictures and bombarding men with "meet now" requests, or is this behavior more influenced by something else?

I understand this topic can be controversial, but as adults with thoughtful minds, we can engage in a constructive conversation with some light-hearted banter in a respectful manner.

Given the male suicide rate in this country vastly outstrips the latter, I'd suggest society to be far from 'patriarchal'.

In a ball gown because that's how we roll in N. Devon

I genuinely don't think that any kind of speculation would come up with a decent hypothesis. I mean, if the world was completely the opposite then chances are the roles would be reversed also. But human nature is s pesky beast and that would no doubt change things.

Where does this assumption that society is 'patriarchal' come from?

"Are you suggesting that patriarchy is responsible for elevating monogamy to a sacred status, and if roles were different, platforms like this wouldn't be necessary? Am I understanding your point correctly?"

Who are you responding to?

You need to use 'reply+quote'

If the roles were reversed historically?

So men stayed home and raised kids

Women went out and earned money/went to the pub on Fridays.

Men got a slap if dinner wasn’t on the table for the woman when she got home.

Men eventually got the right to vote.

Then they argued for equal pay.

The rate of violence against men by women would be ever so high if we’re truly reversing everything.

99% of men would be subjected to abuse in their lifetime.

Women would expect men to provide penis whenever they demanded.

Hmm. Don’t like the sound of that.

What would it have been like more realistically?

Equality from the off.

Safety.

Calmness.

Shared workload in employment and family tasks.

Violence would be drastically reduced.

Sex crimes would be drastically reduced.

All genders would be a lot happier

Manchester (she/her)

It's hard to say what society would look like under radically different social conditions - we'd all have been socialised very differently and be working within and against different expectations and parameters

Interesting. But what made you think so? History is full of unkind queens too. Is it purely based on assumptions or you can back it up with historical facts ?

Perhaps I would still attribute this to patriarchy, as it falsely associates being a provider with masculinity, significantly affecting male psychology, especially when individuals fall short of society's predefined standards.

All over

Whilst both patriarchy and matriarchy both exist in some form or another in segments of society, neither are defining society as a whole. The lines are a lot more blurred now imo.

Certainly, we can't conclusively prove the hypothesis, but I'm merely exploring ideas and interested in hearing others' perspectives.

The assumption might be entirely incorrect, but the prevalent social circumstances strongly suggest it, or perhaps we've been conditioned to accept it—a sort of conspiracy theory. However, logically, based on my observations, it seems there's still a considerable distance to cover before achieving true neutrality, if that's even attainable.

But those queens were still women operating in a man's world, and women in that situation have to lean right into the most toxic bits of toxic masculinity.

Fair point. However, it could be the inherent nature of power dynamics where being in control necessitates a lack of kindness and ruthlessness. This dynamic may be independent of gender as well.

As the distribution of genitalia remains unchanged it probably wouldn’t make any difference..
