Titz Towers, North Notts

I started a small argument at the table with my sister in law in the run up to Christmas when she was trying to get my nephew and niece to eat them.

My argument was that they taste like shit, so why try to force them to eat them, when they can be enjoying pigs in blankets?

Wow. I like to think I’m pretty open minded but this is just sick.

Interesting sprout fact

They changed how Brussels sprouts taste in the 90s

If you didn’t like them before the 90s and haven’t tried then since, give them another go

Selective breeding to remove a chemical that gave them a very bitter taste

“ In the late 1990s scientists identified specific chemicals, called glucosinolates, that made Brussels sprouts taste bitter. Plant breeders started growing old seeds, previously discarded for producing paltry harvests, to identify tastier versions with lower levels of these compounds”

Well, that explains why I now eat them quite a lot, plus that they are grown in the UK and likely to be reasonably fresh, not having been airlifted halfway round the world.

I like them either lightly boiled or sliced and sauteed.

No.

I cook and offer them but I wouldn't force our kids to eat anything tbh, they eat when they want to and whatever they'd like to an extent.

They do like them sautéed with bacon, black pudding and served with scallops or something though. I think they'd complain if I served up standard boiled ones.

Chams or Socials

Our youngest has just been diagnosed with Sensory Processing Disorder so there’s no point in trying to get them to eat anything they don’t want. It’s been a battle but I’m more understanding now I know they’re not being difficult

I won't eat anything from KFC! So I'm in with your kids there. I do like proper gravy though, made from the meat juices. Not from a powder

It all depends how they are done. Not keen on their own very nice if with pancetta and chestnuts for example.
