I love a joke and banter and sometimes the filter preventing me from saying something slightly inappropriate, does not seem to function.

What do you do when you realise you have said something that while causing hilarity, also offends and possibly causes embarrassment at the same time?

Do you try and backtrack? Or do you apologise? Or pretend you are not aware of the embarrassment caused?

Just curious...

Own it.

I said it. I thought it. I might not jave thought the consequences or interpretations through thoroughly, and will honestly apologise for being thoughtless if I upset someone I would have known I'd upset if I'd taken that extra moment to think.

But the apology is for being thoughtless in my phrasing or tone. I don't often say things I don't mean

I'm never nasty, but I do have an inappropriate sense of humour and will post accordingly to that. Its not down to me to censor all my words as not to offend anyone. Else I may as well stop posting completely

Depends how long it takes me to realise I’ve upset them.

If I’ve said something that hurts them then I can only apologise and leave the ball in their court.

Paper Town Central, Essex.

Apologise profusely then beat myself mercilessly with a flaming birch branch.

I then self ban for 24 hours whilst I pray for forgiveness in the nearest church.

If only the offendees knew how much pain they cause me, I'm sure they'd be I little more forgiving.

Honestly, by back looks like a map of outer pattagonia..

In reality, I apologise and hope I'm forgiven.

I apologise, preferably directly to the person and not by message, it is possible the person isn't merely "offended" they could actually be hurt and just hiding it. I have seen words said to people that later saw them burst into tears, it's not nice.

Be kind, be mindful and if you fuck up, apologise.

Often my mouth and my brain do not work in unison, although it do not intentionally say things that intend to offend or hurt it happens quite a lot.

All I can do is apologise if I think it is appropriate to do so. I have said things that to me are quite innocent but to others inappropriate. I don't back track as I end up making things worse. So if an apology is not enough I simply have to let it go - I will never apologise for being me

Don't worry about it generally, offence is always taken, never given.

If I realised that I had caused genuine hurt or distress to someone then it would bother me and I'd need to apologise.
