My niece isn't even 5 and knows that babies come from their mummies tummy - of course she's never asked how they get in there in the first place, but if she ever does then its easy to change the subject, as she finds pretty much everything fascinating at this point

My Mum asked me if they'd told us at school, by which time they had, so does that count as 'the talk'? I ended up somehow having it with my younger sister. Hated it at the time, but later on glad I did as she'll come to me first with most of her problems...but then I somehow get nominated to tell Mum & Dad, or at least be there when she does! Reckon I'll end up doing the same with my niece x

little house on the praire

I taught him from the word dot, but i never once sat down and had "the chat" with him, i answered questions when they came along and we would sit and watch television programmes together. But he grew up with me talking openly and asking any questions, not just about sex, but the importance of relationships, about the misuse of drugs.

As a parent i believe it was my responsabily, if i didnt know something he asked i would look it up.

Funniest thing ever though, on his 12th birthday he started to wear two pairs of boxers to bed at night, when i asked him why he said he was waiting for his sperm to come, he knew it would happen from 12 upwards and must of been convinced it would happen on his 12th birthday

When I tried - they knew all about "things" - sadly not all through school as there were girls in the friendship circle who had been abused.

Same as naughtynymphos really. Just told them littles bits here and there.

They were normal inquisitive kids and I just answered all their questions as they asked. They probably knew most of it by the time they were ten.

My parents were the same, I probably knew the ins & outs if it all by the age of ten as well.

Funny though now their teenagers they'd rather talk about anything else.

Yep, so rather than learning about the positive things about sex education mine got a bit more information that at that age was unnecessary. Luckily mine have always been very open with me so they came home and asked a few questions - which then made me take things up with the head of the school. No long term damage done... and I also thought that the girls involved were the victims really, not my kids.

That could have been really awful, what a horrible way to learn about sex.

Pre teen we were always very open with each other ( me & the kids) but now I'm just embarrassing.

For years we've been able to drop innuendos throughout family conversations, but just in the past few months our eldest has started to giggle and look shocked at some of them.

I think it may be time for that conversation.

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

I've been buying children "Mummy laid an egg" for years. Then it's followed up with a chat but for the most we just answer questions as they come up.

I was told that I come out of my Mum's bellybutton for years. Then the truth came just after year 6! Thankfully lol.

I remember at school there was a kid who said he had already shagged a lass (we were like 10 LOL) and he said his dick was so big that it went in her fanny and come out of her ass. He was actually completely serious and using it as to make him look cool or something...face was a picture when somebody, a girl, explained it was impossible! True story too lol I still know the guy today.

I have always answered questions as they have come up and put him straight when he has come home with the wrong story. I think they should always to told truthful answers in a way they can understand.

Like when he came home and told me his friends mum found her baby under a bush.
