Although a few years have been awful for me I still love Christmas. Time off with my family and seeing their faces on Christmas Day makes all the stress in the run up worth it.

Cannot tell a lie. I put on a pretend happy Christmas face even at work. I send false messages of happy Christmas. I detest everything the music, the laughter, the pretense in keeping folk happy kills me. Rather it be cancelled and reading upon history it was one year.

I think of those less fortunate.

Memories hurt.

Family divide.

New year.. Yippee same old thing just another year.. As johnny logan sang... Whats another year?

I feel fine in myself.

I look around and I see the pressure people put on themselves, the financial pain, the rampant consumerism and waste, and I do wonder how the fuck we got to this point. Stuff your face and spend money you shouldn't because it's a particular time of year.

Whatever happened to peace, goodwill, and all the other stuff one can glean from the various festivals at this time of year?

Christmas for me is hard for a few reasons, more so this year I think.

But I still bloody love it. It's what you make it.

I get it's hard for some people, but people that just winge about it can naff off.

I don't have high expectations of Christmas, I'm realistic about what's involved and how it will go. It's nice to enjoy food and company if you're able to and we are, It's lovely to have a couple of days when you can eat what you want, drink Tia Maria for breakfast and watch stuff on telly that you normally wouldn't.

My mother died in traumatic circumstances in November ‘22, so it has been a hell of 13 months for me. I am still grieving. And dealing with the mess left behind in all honesty.

No tree, no presents, and I am making no excuses for the lack of them. I am gifting my family my time- I have 2 weeks off, and I am cooking Christmas dinner. If they want anything else they can get it themselves. Fortunately they’re not young children anymore, so I don’t have to “put on a brave face”/pretend, etc.

I'm assuming he leaves your place on Wednesday morning.

I'm less positive than your dad. Xmas day at about 4pm and it's all done for me..
