In France we shop normally and it’s calm.

We did our big shop today and hassle free.

But I remember Christmas shopping there in England and it was fucking crazy.

Meet Harry Potter day.

We did a big shop on Tuesday at around 14:30. Absolute fucking carnage! No more! Anything else required will be ordered online. There wasn't a single blue badge bay on what is usually a quiet retail park, on a Tuesday mid afternoon!

I don’t really understand where the mayhem comes from when the major retailers are closed for ONE DAY.

Something about this week flicks a switch in some people. Turning them from regular joes, to complete maniacs.

I'd recommend steel toecaps.

Someone's is bound to step on your toes and they're better for kicking someone out of the way for the last packet of pastry.

I only went out today to fill up with petrol but what usually takes 20 minutes took over an hour and a lengthy rural detour to get round the jam coming into Oxford. Why do people do this year after year?

As one of those people I'd say it's a combination of things.

Many don't have the money until the week before.

Some don't do internet grocery shopping.

There's a lot of stuff you can't buy in advance.

It's Christmas, normal rules don't apply.

We all think it's ok for us to be out shopping but everyone else should stay at home.

I know someone who used to work in a shop that sold things you'd traditionally give to women. At closing time on Christmas eve the queue of men would be out of the door and she could literally sell them anything they were so desperate. I always felt a bit sorry that they put absolutely no thought into the gift at all but the price and fancy gift wrap made it look as if they had.

Apart from the turkey, lamb, pigs in blankets and Twiglets we're having the Christmas shopping delivered on 23rd.

Anything out of stock can be bought locally or gone without.

I really don't care this year.

I'm stressing out because a company sent the wrong item and it's too heavy for me to carry home tomorrow.

I'm hoping I can get a similar one delivered before Christmas.
