Christmas isn't all shits and giggles.......

London/Sussex/Surrey/Berks/Hants

The few weeks around Christmas are an annual reminder of the 3 most significant events that shaped my life. And they're bleak.

Historically there been times when Christmas has taken me to the edge of an abyss.

So..........

If Christmas is a shit time for anyone, feel free to find a warm embrace and comfort here.

Come on in and pull up a chair.

No judgement, just a friendly smile, broad shoulders and good ears.

I hear you.

Some memories bring a mixture of sadness and joy. All we hope is the joy outweighs the sadness.

Bad shit always used to happen to me at Christmas so much so it left such an impact making me always down for no real reason even when things were going great.

Hopefully turned the corner these past couple of years.

I'm the same near my birthday (which is less than a couple of weeks before Christmas and Christmas is part of the "shit").

I get my teeth and carry on. Initially for my children, now theirs.

Last year was shit. This year looked shit, then it looked like it could be lovely, then it’s shit again.

I’ve just kinda rescued it, and got lucky to sorbs more time with my boys than I’d hoped. (Don’t be rude!!).

So that’s good.

Op, I’m trying to make a new tradition for myself, that way, I know I can enjoy it without any heeartache wherever I might be in the future.

OP

You post made me feel really sad for you as I’ve also been in some absolute shitty places with some christmases. Keep fighting pal, it is but a month out of 12 and you’re not alone.

Go and do something normal or nice for yourself and try not to dwell.

Can I make a suggestion if you’re alone on Xmas day? Go and volunteer at a soup kitchen for the homeless, they are always grateful for the help and you get to be with other people. I did it one year

5 years ago, pre-Christmas, Christmas and post Christmas were incredibly challenging.

The clouds still hover

but I push through them, well, my kids pull me through them to be honest.

Not sure where I'd be now if it wasn't for my kids.

Christmas can be a long way from the joy and happiness being thrown about for some people.

My aunt who had spent a lot of the previous 4 years living with us, died a week before Xmas when I was a teenager... Xmas was a less than happy affair for a while.

Sending hugs to all those having a difficult timecat Xmas xx

Christmas is shit. The foul weather, the awful music, the massive consumption, waste, and effort, the emotional noise, but most of all the sense that it’s something that you have to achieve rather than enjoy.

Thought of the day....

No matter where you are, geographically, physically or mentally, someone somewhere in the world is thinking of you, loves you and is there for you.

Peace and love to everyone, today and every day.

Shared this, a few times now :

Someone you know is preparing for their first Christmas without their husband, wife, mother, father, brother, sister, daughter or son. Others are preparing for their last.

Regardless of the specifics, remember that this season of joy is often times a season of sorrow for many.

Be kind, be generous, give love, give help; if nothing else, just don't give people a hard time.

** there are lots of extra support resources at xmas, even on-line - don't suffer alone this Xmas **

Not tragic my end but incredibly annoying and tense spending pretty much a week with my step father who is a bit of a prick and actually one of my deceased alcoholic fathers old work and drinking buddies. He doesn't drink as heavily any more but still a bottle of wine a night type level. Arrogant and overly aggressive with his obvious political opinions thst everything is shit and how he is right about everything.

I have to come see my mum on xmas day / eve and my nan who has dementia comes over and today shat on the floor. Next is 3 days at my sisters with step fsther and mum and my sis and mum barely speak at the minute. It's not how i would choose to spend time. Love my mum so do it for her.
