see I disagree..I havent got one now.. but I have had a few in the past.. and they enhanced my car.

People always knew it was mine... and as I was into my cars and went to car meets a lot this was a normal thing.

Saying that my show plates had my forum name on for the clubs..

I had one when I was with the ex which I hated as it was his name but I had the car the majority of the time and I looked a tit with FIL on the plate plus I couldn't get up to any mischief as everyone knew it was me :-/ Thankfully he took it with him when he left!!

Dont worry lol - I do not have a private number plate at the moment - but I cant see anything wrong with having one. Same with having or not having a sports car! Or a Morgan or whatever... Its choices

In my experience, some items not available in Tescos or Morrisons are probably quite expensive as they are in M & S.

I would not do my entire shopping at Waitrose or M & S - in fact I shop at Lidl and Aldi for some of my groceries and then I buy stuff from M & S and Waitrose for other goodies. I have not really noticed Waitrose being more expensive across the board?

I would suggest you do a full shop on My Supermarket and see what the difference is! It will amaze you... Maybe one or two headline items are cheaper, but I will guarantee that overall, Waitrose is by far the dearest!

I've seen that car and had similar thoughts!!! Can't remember where but just remember thinking 'you twunt'...or something similar!

@OP - I don't mind private plates if they mean something, but some just seem to be there for the sake of having a private plate...plus they can be a ballache to sort when you're relying on Car Salesmen and Joe Public to get the paperwork right. So glad I don't do admin anymore and just flog the cars now!

Who cares if Waitrose is more expensive than other supermarkets?....They have their own market and are fulfilling the needs of their customer base....the same as Aldi and Lidl are.

I am not overly excited by it because I'm not interested in cars but the men in my family are. Up to the individual what they spend their hard earned money on. The men in my family can't understand why I have 2 double wardrobes and a walk in closet filled with clothes and shoes

Iv'e got 3, have no problem is spending my disposable income on what i want,. Would rather it go to the DVLA which goes into the coffers to supports some snivelling wretch that wont work that way than through another tax.

I always though it was a choice how you spend your money, granted some get jealous of those that can blow money this way and seen many a change of attitude once the haters get one! Comical to say the least it is but life is full of irony but that's life,some will always get irritated and jealous of others that can do what they can't.

Why? My bro in law has one and my bro does too. Both of them on just ordinary five year old production family saloons.

Btw I love em both, don't think they're wankers or tossers for this reason. Maybe for other reasons, but not this reason

I know someone who has a private plate but when they bought a new car they transferred it to their other car as they wanted to make sure people could see they had a new car through the new number plate!

Does this mean that a new plate has more kudos than a private plate?

Why are people so quick to say "it's a waste of money" or "they're for tossers"

All I can think is it must be jealousy. There is nothing wrong with being successful. I make no apologies for it.

It seems it's only located here (the UK, not this site lol) too, this jealousy. The amount of times people have said to me "I bet u don't get many miles to the gallon from that" or "not much boot space in that is there mate" you wouldn't believe!

In the US if you drive a nice car, people congratulate you and ask to have a look.

And yes, I have a private plate, it's a sign of my personal success.

I get the same with the car never mind the plates it just makes me smile as I know many who spend more on cigs and binge drinking than I have on plates. I don't complain at people spending money on things they choose to its their choice although if someone went and spent 3 mill on a Caribbean island that would be a waste.....oh no that's me being jealous.

Never really bothered anout it, some plates are funny, shows you how up tight most poeple are in here, but the. I did buy one this year, only because it was perfect for my Yamaha r1, I got it very cheap and I plan on selling it to make a small amount of money on it. It is clearly worth double what I got it for.

To me, they are purely a way of personalising your vehicle as opposed to them being a status symbol.

well theres a simple answer to that for me, i dont drive. I dont know makes of cars apart from the ones people i know well have. In fact i couldnt even tell you the make of my mums car. But its easy for me to recognize people by their number plate

To be blunt, private plates are two a penny these days. Poser'ish maybe in the 80s or 90s but every other car you see now has them - even shit cars lol.

I've got 2 private plates on both my cars and don't see them as as being flash. The kids can cash them in for Rolex watches or cars when their 21

yes it is i know what your saying an yes its posibly often true but persanly its far from that. i grew up in a kids home had nothing from nobody built up my own busness trained as an engineer worked my bollex off trying to make sumthing of myself an thankfully or luckly deppending on your view i have. now in almost mid 40s i intend enjoying it. so i spend what i like on what i like.........just wish the fecking ex hadent hadent got half after making it all so much harder but hey im not bitter well not much hahaha
