I often say to people wanting to give up smoking "nobody likes a quitter"

"When it has reached its end. "

If it's at the end then it's not giving up, it's over. Done. Finished. No more. That's all folks.

Once they become painful or the reward is less than the effort needed.

"At what point or which things cause you give up on something? "

When the penny drops, and you realise the energy is wasted.

That cover lots of things as your question is vague.

I’ve given up an an Xbox Game just as quick as I started.

I'll change tactics first before giving up if it's something I want or find important. I'll not flog a dead horse though, so if it looks like whatever it is isn't going to happen for me then I'll pull the plug and save anymore wasted effort.

When I have learned something that allows me to understand that the effort no longer adds value.

In most things I tend to learn and tweak, retry, and keep going till achieving the goal.

In my daily life and private life i talk in ways of running controlled experiments that deliver scaled outcomes, if successful sale them up; if they fail, go back to the drawing board and retry.

Anyways, enough boredom from me.

Pride myself on quitting the wrong frequently and quickly and saving my effort, patience and determination for the right things.
