Moving north

Newton Abbot

So we are looking to relocate to the north of England. Long story. We have seen some jobs around the Sheffield, Barnsley, Leeds, Rotherham areas but little knowledge of these areas.

So fellow fabbers ....if you live up that area what are your views? Good way of life? And what is the swinging scene like?

Any help and advice appreciated

Bradford

Leeds has 2 good clubs and there's 1 in hull (an hour away) plus a selection just over the pennies in Manchester again about an hour away.

Personally I wouldn't move to Bradford but Leeds is lovely for the most part (obviously has it's "bad area's" as with any city) but there's some really nice towns and villages in the surrounding area's. As for south Yorkshire I'm afraid you'll have to await others opinions as I've never lived there.

There are almost as many Geordies as there are Greggs.

Knows Leeds extremely well!

North Leeds is lovely and heading out towards Weatherby and hitting the out skirts of North Yorkshire x

You have both a big vibrant city & the country on your door step

I rather enjoy it!

Titz Towers, North Notts

Any area has good and bad. To some degree you can overcome these problems with a positive attitude, but I'd move somewhere with good transport links and is relatively easy for travelling to other places from.

I know folk who live in Lincolnshire and love it, apart from the fact that they have to travel an hour before getting anywhere

Well that is the nail in the coffin. North is definitely the horniest by far now.

Yeah but that involves learning another language, getting a visa, vaccinations against Scottish diseases and the women changing their name to morag and taking anti English lessons at night school

Love you x

I moved from Torquay to Sheffield and hated it, though to be fair that was my job more than anything. Football rules there so be mindful of what part of the city you’re in, especially on match days.

I lived in Woodhouse Mill which was very red and I was terrified walking out and about. Shopping in Meadowhall is an adventure though. There was a swinging club there call La Chambré but I think it closed down

Thanks everyone. Your comments are all appreciated. As a born and bred Geordie until my teenage years I would go to Newcastle. Alas where the jobs are dictates the location. South Yorkshire seems like where we may be heading.

Stoke area

Barnsley has a good music scene and decent pubs, but I only know that from visiting and don't live there.

Sheffield and the Peak District on its doorstep is another good option.

If you like outdoors, then Sheffield is the place for you, or Derbyshire if you like remote living

If not, move to Leeds!

Great choice. I used to live in Sheffield and enjoyed it most of all the cities I've lived in.

Rotherham

Nothing in Rotherham Town centre and Parkgate even has empty shops. It's a soulless place (that I've lived in all my days). There's beautiful countryside right on the doorstep for great walks and country parks etc but, on the whole I'd not recommend a move here

Move north Newcastle is very fitting Edinburgh isn't far which also has clubs then Leeds isn't far either and Newcastle has one and Durham so you'd be spoiled. I'm sure you'll find a job too and a home plus very quickly make new friends

Leeds

North Yorkshire is by far best, West Yorkshire with Leeds and that is alright. I'd relocate if I had the choice but work commitments. Then East and South Yorkshire are the shite holes that are best ignored. Don't know about the swinging side of things but as places to live or visit

As with anywhere, some parts are nice, some parts you couldn't pay me to live in. North Derbyshire and North Notts are also within commutable distance of Barnsley and Sheffield. As are Wakefield and South Huddersfield.

Leeds

Don’t move to Sheffield unless you like depression and depravity, gang violence, stabbings, car theft and the general two faces population having a chip on there shoulder.

Barnsley absolute shithole where the inhabitants don’t really talk English it’s sounds like it. But I couldn’t understand it.

Rotherham another run down shit hole with no hope and no point.

Leeds ain’t to bad, but then again I got lucky and I live in the posh bit.

I was born and feed in Manchester.

I live very close to London.

I’d move back north in a shot, I miss what may seem silly things.

Pie chips and gravy.

A decent beer with a head.

People saying good morning to you even if they don’t know you.

Green hills, I do miss the Pennines out my window.

All joking aside, the Manchester traffic is enough to put you off living there! Worse than ever since the red circles of doom on the M60

The M60 is a social experiment. I’m sure if it! Seeking to see how far they can frustrate and push motorists to breaking point.
