Favourite 80’s - 90’s films

So last night I decided I wasn’t going to take up the multitude of offers from all and sunder, I’ll watch a movie instead.

I ended up watching Beverly Hills cop 1, 2 and 3…… I forgot just how good they are!

Tonight’s viewing delights will probably be Top Gun and Days of Thunder.

So what’s your favourite movie from that era?

Heavens Gate is a fantastic and underrated movie with a fabulous soundtrack. It's cost overruns brought down United Artists. It is shot in sepia and tells the tale of immigrants heading West across America.

Streets of Fire, I looked at the poster and saw who were added to the soundtrack and knew I was going to love this film.

Grosse Pointe Blank is one of those films I wished I hadn’t seen, so I can watch it again for the first time. It’s a A+ film especially the scene with the baby.

Honourable mentions,

Lethal Weapon

Scrooged

Long Good Friday

Great era for films. Personally I’m a huge Tom Cruise fan so pretty much any of his, favourites being top gun, cocktail, risky business, Color of money, a few good men, mission impossibles. Interview with the vampire I love, yes Tom cruise but I love Antonio banderas in it too.

Also

John hughes films for sure :

Some kind of wonderful is my favourite

Breakfast club

Ferris bueller

She’s having a baby

Joel Schumacher films too (though must admit I’ve still not seen lost boys may watch it later)

St Elmo’s fire

Flatliners

The client

A time to kill (though that can be a triggering watch for some)

Lesser known/less mentioned ones I like include :

Dead poets society

Big trouble in little China

The abyss

Heathers

Adventures in babysitting

Wall Street

Gregory’s girl

Broadcast news (very interesting considering current socio-politics and media involvement)

My cousin vinny is HILARIOUS!

Desperately seeking Susan (yea Madonna can’t act for toffee but it’s the epitome of the 80’s)

Terms of endearment

War games

Children of a lesser god

The game (seriously amazing psychological thriller)

Fifth element

Practical magic

Wag the dog (again against background of recent/current events is quite thought provoking)

10 things I hate about you

Glengarry Glen Ross (sort of updated death if a salesman, great film)

The crow

American history x - tough watch but a film I think everyone slowly see at least once.

The piano (recommended to another fabber a while back, he didn’t think he’d like it “women’s film etc” but was blown away how good it is)

Betty blue - beautiful of heartbreaking Film, gorgeous soundtrack.

Dogma - if you can find a way to watch it, great film!

LA confidential - beautifully made film

That do you for now op?

I think there’s a good mix of genre and style in there.
