How much do you worry...

about doing things as "they should be done"?

I could not believe it but I heard on the radio this morning that it is now officially acceptable to serve take aways to dinner guests "provided the food was served on warmed china plates".

Made me chuckle as this was quote from Debretts Book of Etiquette.

What do you guys think - how much to you worry about showing "manners" ?

anyone that invites me round for dinner and then orders a takeaway goes down in my estimation. However, if they do it because they admit to being naff at cooking and then want to pay for it all themselves as host, I won't complain

Is this exclusively about table manners?

What about worrying about doing things the right way in bed?

I am so impressed with you guys... drinking gin from a cup may be considered by some as greedy but hey we wont worry about the details...

I kind of feel some manners are a little outdated at times and yet they are nice. I would hold open a door for anybody who is behind me... and yet I appreciate some of the (slightly old fashioned" gentlemanly manners many guys still display.

It seems a shame when men feel they should not be gentlemen because that is nt what women want anymore. I really appreciate good manners.

I have, but writing such a book would be better with practical experiments

We drink it by the gallon here. Foolishly consider it as one of our 5 a day seeing as it has never seen an apple

Omg

I could never do that ...

to me, taking the time to prep and cook something nice is half the fun and enjoyment of the evening.

How bloody lazy ..........

And lets face it.....if you cant be bothered to do it yourself (exceptions include...cooker blowing up, tidal wave, volcano erupting etc) then why bother in the first place ?

Well, all my mates know how crap I am at cooking, if I invite people for tea they always say "Yes, if you promise not to cook"

I'm mannerly.... to make up for bad cooking I say please, thank you, excuse me, may I? I hold doors open for people, I let people on the bus first if they have a pass and I'm paying cash, I don't talk about how much things cost, I don't ask people how much they paid, I never remark on what people are eating, I don't put my elbows on the table.

My dad was a real stickler for manners and most of it has stuck if I'm in company... of course when I'm on my own I'm a slob

Actually, Peaches - I could not serve a take away either. Something about making the effort for my friends. Having said that my close friends sometimes decide we all havea take away and then it is just a matter at whose house we meet but that is different from inviting people round for dinner.

I sat with some children in the dining hall recently at the primary school I work in, one boy took his chocolate chip cookie (yep crap is still on the menu, and no I'm not the Gestapo ) and scooped up his curry and rice with it! Needless to say I have eaten my lunch in the staff room since!
