The Vegan company of Heather Mills, most famous for her downhill ski career, has reportedly gone into administration. Have people fallen out with the so called vegan fad. Of course there will be diehards but it was just a passing phase surely like winkle pickers and punk rock.

What's going on here guys. Its all over the news

I did know she had a vegan food company! She needed better PR maybe?

I think Linda McCartney is still popular on the vegetarian food front, and she’s been deceased for quite some time.

Carlisle usually

I still know plenty of vegans and vegetarians.

As someone who eats a lot of that kind of food Heather Mills was never on my radar. Which means both the marketing and the product were sub par for it to have never even reached by word of mouth.

Way off the mark.

Every supermarket has vegan ranges so small companies like hers are falling by way side but veganism and vegetarianism are more popular than ever before.

That's sad to hear . There had been a plateau/decline in vegan food sales for a year or two, I thought. Didn't I read a news item from the official news editor a year back?

It's been a new market and it was easy to get crowded, once a large number of manufacturers entered it, potentially flooding it, not necessarily with products that were especially palatable or natural.

I didn't buy or knowingly eat any of her food. As many supermarkets and very large food producers introduced their own stuff, including Birds Eye, it's tough for an unknown entrant to get store access etc.

A den in the Glen

I think veganism is on the up. If anything she was probably squeezed out of the market. As someone else suggested the first Mrs McCartney is still going strong selling her produce. Perhaps with the cost of living crisis Heather Mills didn't have a leg to stand on?

Sorry.

Veganism won’t go anywhere, it was around long before either of them had their businesses in it.

It’ll likely stay the same but less places catering to them.

The company is VBites, it appears as though they only sold through smaller outlets & specialist Vegan shops

No, even the supermarkets have their own brand of vege/vegan food now, so they stop stocking food with low sales of other companies.

Currently and in line with the newest earth 3 series more and more people are cutting down on their meat consumption, it's quite a popular food choice with the younger generation

Meanwhile, sales of fresh fruit and vegetables are still strong. Maybe a lot of vegans and vegetarian folk are just not buying the ”trendy” processed muck which is marketed as a healthy plant based option.

Dubai & Nottingham

It’s a tiny market still around £1 billion in the UK, which is the biggest global market. it grew rapidly with all other types of identity / labels, so it was no surprise and it would decline.

identify based products target mostly younger people and teenage children who's families pay , - the groups is hit most by the cost of living crisis.

Sales are declining around 10% per year , some of the major players like Beyond Meat have completely tanked, no one wants to hold the shares

I'm not a vegan but I do agree with some of the general concerns: animal welfare, environmental impacts, human health etc

I think the issue is as always it people are either vegan or they're a complete carnivore. There should be a greater push at meat/diary reduction.

As for vegan "meats" I've personally never liked them...I'd rather have no meat at all haha

So if a steakhouse closes does that mean that steak was just a fad?

Pretty sure the number of vegans is increasing rather than being “a fad”. Do you have any actual data that proves the number of vegans is decreasing?

I don’t think the closing down of one supplier can suggest anything other than problems with that particular business.

I think there’s a certain degree of “fad” to turning vegan, and that may or may not decline. But I don’t think the number of vegans on the whole is in decline. Hopefully the number that feel the need to tell everyone will decline as that’s getting a bit old.

I don’t want false meat either. I’d just rather make a dish with plant based ingredients.

I don’t agree with a “push” to get people to eat anything other than their own personal choice though.

Not pushed but there should be honest labelling for starters.

I think people would think twice about the meat they eat if they saw the actual conditions the super majority of animals are farmed in

I enjoy eating meat, but I am aware of and don't deny the ethical problems with my dietary preferences. As a secular humanist, and environmentalist. I simply accept that I am little hypothetical when it comes to the morality of my diet. But I dont get defensive about it.

I really don't get the visceral anti-Vegan hatred that seems to have become so popular amongst some carniviores ???

Vegans literally, aren't hurting anyone! So why are people so bothered by them? OP, why do take such delight in the idea of the vegan movement 'failing'???

Some new converts are a bit preachy, but that's really not unique to vegans and can't hurt you in any way.

You can't catch the 'veganisim', so it's really nothing to be scared of I promise you!

Oh and vegans have been round for thousands of years and will no doubt be around for the foreseeable future. If anything simple logic dictates that vegetarianism and veganisim will only grow as humanist morality continues to outgrow religious faiths, and as expanding population, continues to put pressure on declining resources....

I think it's because the term "Vegan" in this country has become loosely linked with left wing politics.

Also it's because people get extremely touchy and defensive when it comes to eating meat.

People don't want to admit that the way we farm animals (particularly factory farming) is cruel and horrible, because they would have to question their own diets, which they've probably had their whole lives.

Some people are not concerned so doubt they would question anything food habit. Much like lots of things in life there is bad practises on how life goes on but it doesn’t make one question themselves as they are removed.
