A couple of my friends have had this very recently. It's a liquid diet for a short time after any then very tiny amounts of normal food following that, literally a saucer size plate of food.

They also recommend supplements to replace vitamins/nutrients.

Hiya

I had gastric sleeve surgery done back in May.

I've always been a big lad myself I'm 6ft 1 but always struggled with weight loss, so in May I went to Circle Health at the Alexandria hospital in Cheadle I was 28st 10lbs I had a sleave gastrectomy done and last week I weighed in at 21st 6lbs I've been swimming 3 times a week and everything is much easier and up to now no loose skin I'm just the same as I was but a slimmer version.

I've never been that fussy really I've avoided other health problems like diabetes I think because I cut out sugar years ago I've always eaten fruit and veg ect, now that I've had my op there's things that I used to love that I cannot stand anymore like bacon, sausage aswell as fried things, I'm on anti sickness meds at the moment to help me eat what I need to.

If you'd like to pm me feel free always happy to help

I haven’t had mine yet, but I heard it’s thought for many, especially if you’re fussy as your body isn’t going to tolerate food the same as it did before.

My friend had it and loves sweet things like me after her sleeve her body literally cannot tolerate it and she’ll vomit minutes after eating something like a donut, she had tests etc just in case and all is okay. Portions will be insanely small and she will probably find the things she once loved she may not after surgery.

It depends on the person I guess and can take months for you to know what’s going to be ok for the body and what won’t. Good luck to your friend!

She would be best off trying to introduce healthier foods into her diet now before the surgery and she gets a shock.

I was supposed to have mine last year but couldn’t on the day due to low iron levels, but it motivated me to start losing weight on my own and changing my eating habits, almost 4 stone down.

Is this via the nhs? I was under the impression they put you through psychological testing and you have to lose an amount in advance plus do the diet trial in advance to shrink fatty liver etc at that point she will either succeed with those changes or not. Has she had initial consultation as yet?

There are ways to get round everything, friends have sucked chocolate buttons etc. She won’t physically be able to eat junk food, her pouch won’t let her process it, it will dump (vomit) of she tries to binge or eat things that are too fatty or gassy. She won’t be able to drink pop (fizzy drinks) and must eat a reasonable amount of protein compared and limit the fibre. She will (should) be given a diet to stick to initially with the amount of grams of each food group she needs to consume and she will need to make that work for her. She’s not expected to eat salad forever but neither will she be able to eat kebabs and burgers and pizzas etc
