"Nominees list is out… cricketer Stuart Broad, jockey Frankie Dettori, footballer Mary Earps, wheelchair tennis player Alfie Hewett, athlete Katarina Johnson-Thompson golfer Rory McIlroy So… simple question…. Who should win? For me it should be either Mary earps or KJT Fabio Is Antony Martial not on the list?" He's not even on the list for Antony Martial of the year!

"Just shows what a pretty awful year it has been for British sport. A very weak list. For me I would go Broad, great Ashes and great career but it will go to the goalkeeper as the only footage the BBC has is womens football." KJT won at the world athletics championships, earps got voted best keeper at the World Cup and best women keeper in the world… If broad had won the ashes the I would have agreed.. but him and detori feel like lifetime achievement…

"Mary Earps or Alfie Hewitt. I'm torn between the two " Same here, KC. Though I'd say what Alfie has achieved already in tennis far exceeds Mary. But I'd be happy with either of those two x

For me the key part is “Personality” accepting a level of achievement. Based on performance only, I’d go for KJT.

"Should be Alfie Hewitt for what he won over the year but reckon will go to Earps the goalkeeper in a losing World Cup final team" How is that a fair characterisation of Earps? I can't stand Man U but I'm a massive Earps fan. Hewitt has achieved pretty much everything several times in wheelchair tennis, he's also very deserving but arguably should have been recognised before now! It's only recently that disabled sportspeople even got a look in.

Everyone will have there own reasons for every one of the six to win & this is just my opinion

They're both very deserving, for different reasons. I just objected to your characterisation of Earps.

"If you don’t believe how much earps is rated.. just wait a few weeks for the WSL January transfer window to open… and watch for a world record bid for a female player from a certain “club”…… I still 50/50… I am thinking earps but I think hewett might sneak it! " Earps has been hot favourite with the bookies since the shortlist was announced and they are rarely wrong but we will see.

"All the sporting element of the evening ignored…..for a dress I wonder if Broadys attire would have been commented on had he won. " Nope. Someone always has to comment on the appearance and dress of female participants. It's tiresome, ain't it? Can't we just appreciate Mary Earps for her footballing capabilities and achievements?

"Demonstrates how sport has gone down the celebrity route. If England's Women's team were to be honoured, it should have gone to them collectively via the captain. Earp has just garnered more PR - that's not sport." She did make the point that she's part of a team. Also, she was nominated, it's not an award she put herself forward for. It's not something she chose to do for her own PR.

"Before seeing the thread I didn't know this program was still going Haven't watched it in decades, it was a tired formula back then, very few nominees had / have "personalities"" Whatever else you have to say about Mary Earps, she definitely has a personality!

Depends what the vote is for I guess.

"The whole thing is a complete waste of time. To start with the nominees are chosen by someone at the BBC and the public are only allowed to choose between the six. There are plenty of other sports "personalities" but people can't vote for who would be their choice. The whole system prevents the public from having a real say in who they consider. This award is totally outdated and past the sell by date. Get rid! " Ronnie O'Sullivan for example,Seven world titles and god knows how many other titles, never even been nominated for the 'award',(and I'm not a snooker fan).Earp's winning is a joke,it's a patronising pat on the head,"you didn't win anything but here's a trophy, well done you for having a go".
