Thinking about young love and how watching it blossom and grow (I’ve got a kid who’s got someone apraxia’s in his life) do you remember the 1st time your heart was broken? Their name? How quickly you got over it? Who you went and got off with to try and make them jealous?

To be a teenager again eh?

I remember both the first time I was in love and the first time I actually was. They both still hold places in my heart

I didn't have a normal teenage life and didn't kiss a girl or have a girlfriend until I was 19, almost 20.

In saying that the first 4 girls I asked out said I wasn't their type so that in itself was heartbreaking.

I didn't have the option of going off to find a replacement.

I never forget this stuff. I could reel them off from primary school crushes onwards, but the first one that really hurt, in what I now know is the way of actual, genuine, heartbreak … was Sophie. I was just about to start art school. She was just about to take her final year at a different one. We had a glorious summer. She was beautiful, free-spirited, talented and so very, very smart. Then she went to Goa for a month. And right after getting back, she met someone else. We met up, we walked, we talked. We hugged. And then we never saw each other again.

I didn’t get over her, if I’m honest. I still wonder ‘what if’, sometimes.

.

I've never had my heart broken.

I've been hurt, sure. But I'm always quite well... cautious. It takes a long time for me to date and trust someone and to give them my heart. I've not given anyone that chance to bar my fiancé come to think of it.

High School girlfriend at 17. We were together for about 3 years, was a total mess for a long time when we broke up, though we were still friends but drifted apart. Bumped into her a few times over the years, and she once told me I had been the best boyfriend, in EVERY way. Haha

Joking aside, I didn’t really have the opportunities as a kid as I grew up quite isolated, and when I did meet girls I couldn’t understand why I wasn’t that into them but liked their dolls. It wasn’t until I was at university and met a guy called James in a local pub I thought ohhh… god I was probably obsessed with him for a semester.

I had my heart broken by a girl called Naomi.

She was the daughter of an army officer when I was serving in Aldershot.

6 weeks into my tour of Bosnia in 2002 she ended it.

Weirdly we are now back in touch but she’s happily married with three kids.

I broke a girls heart - she is from France and I met her during my first posting in 2000.

We were together for a year.

She found me on Facebook about six months ago and we message most days now. Very strange but nice to be in touch

It was in a nightclub and I said do you mind coming round with me and telling all the girls that? Haha She was basically throwing herself at me but she was dating the guy she's now married to. Would have been great but she'd have hated herself in the morning so I didn't act on it.

Yeah, I was 20, she was amazing , she got me into rope and Photography. It took about three years to fully get over her. I remember not being able to eat and getting off the bus each morning on the way to to work and throwing up.

That’s exactly how I feel. No regrets, only gratitude for the experiences.

Totally agree. Had a couple of really painful break-ups (though I guess one couldn't be considered a break-up as it wasn't really a relationship per se). There was one where I thought she was the one I would spend the rest of my life with, that really hurt and was reluctant to open myself up again, didn't want to ever again, but I met someone who showed me that I could. Didn't last but I guess I learned not to shut myself off and learn from what went wrong (or didn't) before.

Yes unfortunately it was my 1st proper boyfriend we'd been together 8 months before I lost we lost our virginity to each other on new year's eve - that night he cheated on me, I found out a couple of months later I was devastated especially on that day of all days, I didn't let on how upset I was or that I even was upset I just carried on as normal, he cheated a few more times before we finally split.

That shaped the majority of relationships from there I think there's only been 1 person who hasn't cheated on me which you know what makes you feel absolutely worthless & fucking shit but hey ho.

East London

At our chalet in the 70s Paul from Peckham bought me a little Barbie type doll from the holiday camp shop.

I was over the moon and thought he loved me.

I went home and my cousins went down there. When they got back my cousin said he bought her one too.

Broken-hearted

Another time my family went for coffee at thd camp Doctor's chalet and one of the sons kissed me on the cheek in the kitchen.

When we got back home he sent a photo of himself addressed to my elder sister; who didn't acknowledge that he'd got our names mixed up.

After that, I vowed no more holiday romance.
