Hot water combi boiler question

Jump to newest

My combi boiler seems to be playing up

When I demand hot water I hear the boiler fire up then a short while later with the tap still running the burner stops if I leave the tap running it kicks in again then stops and so on.

I've checked water pressure its about 1 1/4 bar, no error codes.

Anything I might be able to do before I ring the boiler man ?

What temperature have you set the HW to on the boiler? If it's set too low it's probably reaching it's temperature sooner and then flaming out before it kicks in again.

Chams or Socials

Ours does the same. But ours is 17 years old & on its way out. Gasman keeps it ticking over safely for us though until we get round to replacing it (ie win the lottery)

Does it just do it on hot water or heating as well?

I'll try and answer the other Q's on here as well.

Set the hot water at 60 ish.. never seems to get therr..

If I run the central heating that runs fine only seems to be the water

Serviced about july this year, Its on a service contract so gets one every year, only thing the guy found was a leak on the expansion vessel which he reinflated

When it was installed they fitted a magnatite filter (fernox tf1)

It could be your flow switch.

ive just had a new combi fitted , gloworm , 2400 , fixed price thats because i had a regular system , ie tank in loft emersion heater etc , was only 1800 if a like for like swop.

is your thermostat working ok

could the rads need bleeding

is it possible to turn off at the mains , electric i mean , leave for 10 mins then fire it up again

is there a pump , give it a tap with a hammer

turn the temperature right down , leave for 10 mins then turn it up again..

waffle i know , ive just drank a bottle of wine lol

It could be your turbo encabulator.

I hear the old ones are made of prefabulated aluminite, surmounted by a malleable logarithmic casing in such a way that the two main spurving bearings are in a direct line with the pentametric fan.

As this is my industry I feel qualified to offer an opinion. It sounds like it's cycling, ie the primary heat exchanger gets to hot shuts the burner down cools and fires again - this happens if it can't get rid of it's heat quickly enough. Causes for this are either a blocked (scaled up) dhw heat exchanger or a blocked internal filter. The fact that you have your hot water set to 60'c my monies on a scaled dhw heat exchanger.

couple, us we him her.

It could be your flux capacitor or your dilithium crystals are dried up

Or

It's your diverter valve.

My previous boiler started doing that, so I had the boiler serviced, which seemed to make it worse. The chap who serviced it reckoned it was about 20 years old.

Got a new one now

its diverter valve depending on your boilers make.

If faulty it tends to heat a rad closest when it fires up a quick check will point this out.
