I mean the actual TV you watch programmes and films on.

(I bet someone still makes something out of that)

The one I have is big and has a wide frame to it, and I have another slightly smaller one that's taking up space elsewhere. So I'm hoping the main one will pack up and solve my problem. But it's been years and TV's don't die quick anymore do they.

Do you upgrade every so often like some do their cars or do you stick with what you have till it breaks?

What else do you upgrade and how often if your one of those types? You phone? Smart watch, Fitbit, blah blah blah.

I'm a don't fix it till it's broke or dead type.

7 years for my main one. It was one of the last 3D TVs available but is also 4K.

Had to take it to pieces a couple of years ago to replace the backlights.

5 years, there’s a few dead pixels on the screen that piss me off, but I refuse to swap it until it stops working.

That’s like a lot of my other tech’. I love having it, but I’m not spunking money away to swap it just for the sake of keeping up with the Jones’s

I bought wanky TVs last time I moved house. Because when you’re spending hundreds of thousands on the house, blowing a couple of grand on TVs is easier. I’d couldn’t justify it normally. Which is daft really - the TV gets used nearly every night, surely it’s worth throwing some money at?

4 years but I am set for close to the next 10 years I went off the deep end with mines

And got a 8k tv was very expensive but don’t need to worry about buying another one for a good time

As very little 8k native content out there but dose look wonderful and beautiful everything up scaled to 8k at just like your wonderful and beautiful sorry not sorry had to sneek a little complement in there

Also no tv jokes from me turning over a new leaf

Mines only a basic cheap hd logic TV, had it a while.

Gives a decent quality picture so I don't see the need for an upgrade yet until it goes wrong.. Have a usb stick in the back of it so I'm able to watch about anything I want.

I had mine about 4 months.

Not into tv and don’t really bother but my old one couldn’t display my newish laptop without looking weird and I like sitting on the sofa designing stuff on the tv.

I used to upgrade my TV regulary (I like TV) But can't really afford it now. When the latest Samsung came out I aways bought the previous years model as they were on sale

Phones don't care about, when my contract is up I find a cheap sim deal and keep the phone until it dies.

We had our old one about 7 years before it died.

Bought a new one about 4 months ago. It lasted less than 24hrs!it was sitting on the unit waiting to be put on the bracket when my toddler yeeted it onto the floor.

Got another one and put it up strange away. Damn children

Still using my Magic Lantern.

Loads of life left In it yet. !!

Honestly though,

I upgraded last year.

As every one says, thet last quite a while now.

The only thing that's really changing is the sound quality and thickness of the set.

My screen is around 8mm thick !!!

The sound is superb with no need for a sound bar. Full 3d sound.

It's awesome for watching concerts in 8k.

And x box gaming. It's awesome.

Cost a bloody fortune though.

About 4 yrs I think for the main one? The others are a bit older but still smart TVs. More circumstance really, I don't usually upgrade tech for the sake of it. My mobiles are usually kids cast offs or refurbished. My current is an iphone 7. Does everything I need.

Current one since 2020.

I brought a massive one over (the deep o was before flat screen) from Germany when moving. Needed 2 people to carry... It lasted 3 moves then... Ouch...on the floor.

So, my suggestion maybe move a few times and the problem solves itself ?

I’ve had mine for donkeys years.

I keep meaning to invest in a new one as mine has a bit of screen burn after so much use (manifesting as some slight ‘shadowy’ areas on the screen).

I've had this one since 2006. Barely used, so it still works fine.

I'll not replace it unless someone is getting rid of one and wants to give it to me... but even then I'm likely to keep using this one for ages until I can be bothered to swap them over.

Rather listen to music, games or on the mobile for fab.

I found TV induced anxiety and thoughts that were unpleasant.

Like I'd worry things would happened to my kids or partner. I had no idea it was a thing until I went a while not watching TV and noticed the difference.

And I actually enjoy silence a lot.

Call me weird. I've had a life full of children, and many of them, so quiet time is golden and I can think or just chill. But I often get stuck into something too, a project or a hobby.

TV is negative most of the time. I also don't do well wth a man's voice giving a talk so documentaries can be like nails on a blackboard to me too. That probably sounds weird and like I'm ND or something but if I actually explained why I think you'd understand. I just wish I'd realised sooner.

Read books, podcasts, audio books, listen to music, crafting, DIY projects, see friends, talk to friends, go to the gym, meditate, yoga, got out on adventures, have sex, sleep, watch series/movies on my laptop or pad (rarely), play games...

Told myself I'd buy a TV when I missed it, haven't missed it once since.

We bought our TV in 2018, but we bought it in the Jan sales so it'll be 6yrs very soon. It's a 32" one. Probably considered small by modern standards but it works and so we won't be replacing it. We are very much "use it till it dies or becomes totally obsolete" in all areas. We don't see the need to constantly buy new things just because we can or just because a company made a new version of something.

Never had a TV. In these days of my laptop being ever present it hardly matters, save that I don't stick it on absently; there has to be something I'm looking to watch. The downside is that I'm sure I miss out on some good shows; the upside that I rarely watch anything I'm not actively interested in.

Suggestions enormously welcome! Slow Horses, Only Murders In The Building & Reacher are my current mix. With an occasional Ted Lasso or The Bear.

Just a heads up

Running cost on that for a year is probably higher than replacing it and running a led one for 2 years.

Plasmas a bit electricity thirsty.

Let me just jump in at this point to say... (and I'm in the bedroom as I say it)...

I got mine secondhand, and it's served me well for about 6 years. I think it might be developing a dead spot over on the right side of the screen, though. So I'll probably think about replacing it in a year or so.

And that's all I have to offer.

Had mine at least 15 years. Early this year it suddenly had green & purple/pink lines covering the screen rendering it unwatchable. A quick search online suggested what the fault was, & took a chance on a second hand board off ebay.

Good as new again, & for the bargain price of £13, happy days!

Good old Samsung.

I brought an early smart Tv over 10 years ago. The telly works well still, good quality pictures etc.

It’s just that smart bit that’s not very good, it’s very slow at loading internet based channels etc, I don’t bother anymore. I’ll keep it until it works no more.

Oh lawks, bought with the house move since march. Not the best, not the worst - I set a budget and researched the best I could get at that price.

Generally at mine the musics on and I’m absorbed with some maths, an interesting book or playing with my laser.

I do have the tv but it’s a glorified computer screen, mostly for laser work.

Just threw our one down the recycling centre as the Japanese TV companies have pulled out of Europe. Never had a cell phone here as we get no signal at the house

I have one that doesn’t work properly, it’s I’m used for gaming when my kids are here.

I will keep things until it no longer works, I’m stubborn and refuse to buy new all the time.

My phone will have ti stop functioning before I upgrade.
