Menston near Ilkley

Sprouts with spek or crispy bacon as an accompniment to pasta but slice the sprouts and dice the spek or bacon. Surprisingly yummie!

Personally love them but have to share this:

My brother was over for Christmas from the USA a few years ago, big family affair including my 2 nephews aged then about 7 & 9 and my daughter who was 8.

My brother offered each of the kids £10 to eat a brussel sprout, both my nephews held their noses, screwed up their faces and gagged a brussel sprout down and were duely handed their £10.

My brother then turned to my daughter and said OK your turn, no thanks she said I don't like them - OK says my brother you have a spoonful of ice cream instead ................ and she got her £10. Needless to say my nephews were not happy lol.

Just goes to show, honesty is still the best policy and boys just never learn lol.

xxx xxx

Love them anyway they come, especially raw. A real nutty flavour.

BUT (aint there always a but) they have to have had a frost on to taste at their best.

Trick I've just learned is to pop them in the freezer for half an hour. Does the trick.

As with most veggies, should only be picked after a frost.

The starch in the veggies turns to sugar when they are exposed to frost, but its not the same as picking them and then feezing them lol, has to be when they are "on the vine" so to speak.

I love them!

I would cut them into quarters.

For lunch at work, I drizzle a bit of oil on them, add a pinch of salt, and heat in the microwave for about 40s, while I heat the meat and rice in a separate microwave.

At home, I would stir-fry them with garlic and ginger, along with other veg like mushrooms, peppers and spring onions, add a dash of soya sauce, sesame oil and seeds to finish.

Lovely!

I grew some this year for the first time and the first pickings were ghastly. A neighbour said to pop in freezer for just half an hour, no longer, and they taste fine.

Bought frozen ones are yuk.

Why do people eat things like sprouts? They know the horrible toxic things will make you fart like an atom bomb but still they eat them. Is it some sort of sado thing going on here, knowing you're gonna stink the place out like a skunk on speed. Siren wants me to cook them on Xmas Day and begrudgingly I've agreed, but I swear, one fookin fart, from anyone, and they're gonna get the biggest butt plug I can find inserted unceremoniously....
