Appropriate work party outfit

My boudoir - S Wales

Right I have a question…

Would it be appropriate to wear something sheer that shows a bra to a works Christmas party?

I think the outfit is quite classy but I work with a load of men, truckers at that. They may just see baps!

Could be setting myself up for some Monday morning gossip.

On the other hand, I feel really good in it.

Opinions please

Surely it's all about what you want to wear? If it makes you feel good then what's the problem?

And if there's office gossip it'll just be "wow - she looked hot at the xmas do" for a couple of days and then forgotten - at least until the lead up to next years party, then it'll be "do you remember that see through outfit!

I guess at the end of the day I'm saying wear what you feel good in and sod them!

Let's face it - we're looking at your baps anyway.

BTW- do you need a +1?

Basically it comes down to how you'll feel if there is gossip and if the thought of that might spoil your evening.

I'm all for wear what you want but even though it's unfair sometimes there will be consequences you might not appreciate, if you're prepared for that go ahead.

I think this is one of those things that is in a process of change. When I was a young adult I was made to feel that bra strap slippage was the height of sins. Now people seem to show them off on purpose.

I'm not sure about... a work event? But maybe if it's a very neutral bra.

I think they'll see baps, and remember baps, and make comments about baps all year long.

So...the question would be...would your "bapness" harm your working life there?

If it would, maybe something that subtly hints at baps, rather than serves them on a platter?

For FAB delectation...both subtle and platter always welcomed x

If the bra is a sold colour material (not lace or sheer) then I wouldn’t see a problem with it.

If anyone judges you for what you wear it’s their problem not yours

And if the truckers see it as a come on then also that is their issue not yours.

You work with men. All they'll see is baps whatever you wear.

People have a habit still of blaming the woman for wearing something than for other people's reaction to it.

I bet 10p that if comments are made in a weeks time and the op complains so.e bright spark will say "it's your fault for showing your bra".

Yeah, this is why I'm hesitant to say it's ok, even though the fashion has clearly moved towards this being acceptable.

I personally wouldn't go to my works party wearing that outfit, but that's because I know so many people would gossip and judge and I can't be doing with it.

I want to live in a world where I can go to work naked, or dressed up like Jacob Rees-Mogg, and nobody gives a shit.

Only you (OP) know whether you want to crusade for freedom here, or maybe you're jacking the job in after Xmas so who cares, or maybe those truckers are more 21st Century than any of us know?

But...deep down...you know what effect you'll have in those preexisting dynamics, because none of us work there, only you, and deep down you already know whether you want to do this, and what the consequences, positive, negative, or neutral, will be.

And you also know what you want to do with those consequences.

Lovely baps btw.

Wear it with a good bra underneath, not one that has some slight spillage too it or a nice bodysuit.

If that's all they can gossip about on Monday morning then let them, says more about them than you!

And that's why it needs to happen more. So people stop victim blaming. If blokes cannot control their urges or cannot see a woman in a beautiful outfit without thinking "I want to f*** that" then that is not the woman's fault, and society needs to make men better.

Men need to make men better, men need to have a word with their mates when they say something that we know is wrong rather than laughing along for fear of being the odd one out or to be seen as woke or a member of the feminati.

I know your foaming at the mouth to make this men’s fault

But men aren’t the only people that will judge an outfit and take that judgement with them into work

I know in a fantasy world we can all dress how we want

But in reality how you dress is an expression of yourself that others will judge, both men and women, and that could effect your work life, someone’s for better, sometimes for worse

Personally I wouldn't for a work thing and especially if it was male dominated. But that's just a personal thing as I am in a position in work that's quite respectable and also I don't like men leering at me. But if you feel comfortable enough to wear it you shouldn't bother what people think.

Also, you'd probably get worse comments if you worked with a bunch of women rather than men!

Wear what makes you feel good.

The reason I asked if there would be many women colleagues there is because the worst negative judgement often comes from them.

I'm would expect the OP to be taken seriously based upon her work, duties and competencies, and not necessarily her clothing/uniform.

Just wear whatever is comfortable and makes you feel content.

Is there an option of wearing a cami or vest top underneath instead?

It's such a shame you feel you need to ask, but I completely understand why. Could lead to some very awkward/inappropriate comments at a later date.

If you’re concerned about it then maybe a slip or a body as suggested?

Without knowing your office culture I can’t really say, but be prepared for comments about your décolletage.

Your role/position in the company will be a factor as well.

As a senior manager I will always be careful of how I present myself to my staff. I'll always be professional on how I dress and interact even at social events. Trust me they can bite u in the ass after.

In a perfect world you won't be judged or spoken about on the way you decide to wear as a woman, unfortunately we don't live in a perfect world. If you are concerned take the advice above and probably wear something like a cami .

Yeah I was taught I was “representing the company” at all times and my actions reflected upon them.

One of the reasons I binned it off and became head geek instead.

That and all the shitty politics.

If you doubt wearing it enough to add to a forum thread for advice … don’t wear and find something else … whilst showing a bra is not the worse fashion crime ever committed … you will be looked at differently at work … if you can take that .. wear it . If not change .. I’m not saying that’s right or wrong .. just saying it’s likely ..

For a work event, personally, I wouldn't wear sheer tops without a fitted/tight vest under to hide lingerie. But it depends where you work and what the event is.

Depends on the kind of people really. When I go to our works office party in London , the women really go for it, they look amazing & revealing & the men would not think to or dare say anything derogatory about what they wear , , but it’s Mayfair. Places I worked in the past in the Midlands, very different, they would be the talk of the office for weeks.

In a ball gown because that's how we roll in N. Devon

Honestly, it's the sort of thing I'd happily wear. You always strike me as someone who can give more than as good as you get, darling lady... and a swift "and that's as close as you'll ever get to them " in response to comments made usually works wonders to shut the lairy ones up.

If it feels good, do it. Also... send me photos

Arrive wearing something over the top.

Then if you feel comfortable, at the time, take it off.

Not at a works do.

I’m all for wearing what you want in own time, but for work related things, I think it’s best to opt for coverage.

Very mixed bag of opinions and advice, but all valid. Thanks everyone for commenting.

There will definitely not be any nips showing. I just about found nipple stickers that cover them!

I have wore something similar on a night out before and had a lot of tuts and eye rolls from women with their partners, but also a lot of compliments from women who were with friends. I guess it’s all down to the individual. Was interesting to see the guys input on this post though.

Over and out
