Have you ever disliked someone and then been like, ‘actually I was wrong about you, you’re alright’ ?

It’s a weird feeling, that. Being wrong. Not sure I like it.

Not disliked them because I don't give that much energy to a person before I know them.

I've been pleasantly surprised before when I've found out people were more my sort of person than I originally thought. I like when that happens.

I've been wrong a couple of times with people I initially thought were sound only to see them in a different light.

So far I've never changed my opinion on anyone I originally disliked.

Not out of stubbornness on my part but just because they really are a cunt.

In a training session I was sat next to a young guy who I thought was too loud and a bit of an idiot. However within an hour working on a project with him I realised he was very knowledgeable and his personality was quite refreshing, he was bloody honest about everything.

So I try to no longer judge on first impressions anymore unless it’s obvious the person is a prat.

First time I saw your profile, when I was single, I initially thought you were unapproachable but after reading forum posts it became clear you were just very pragmatic and honest, some people may mistake that foe something else but it led me to message you and I'm glad I did.

Of course, plenty of chance to bugger it all up by being an arse in person but that's a problem for future-me

When it all comes down to it, it's nothing but one person's hero is another person's villain.

We are all twats on some level, it just means you like the kind of twat they are. Your perception of the twatishness changed, but they are still that initial twat you thought they were in the first place too.

This happened to me all the time in football playing days.

Play for one team and absolutely detested a lad who played for another local team, constantly had verbals etc.

Later I joined his team was player I was dreading playing with the most, but a few other teammates from former clubs had also made the switch, turned out we got on like a house on fire.

Had conversation in the changing rooms after about a month of playing there where he said to me “you know I used to hate you, but you are actually all right” I replied “the feeling was mutual”.

I went to see jada pinkett smith recently and she was talking about how she had to remind herself of that factor about people. Not sure it’s the same lol but she talked about how she had to realise like her Dad wasn’t put on this earth JUST to be her dad. So there’s more to him than how he is as a dad. If that makes sense? You saying this just triggered this memory that I wanted to share with you and all

A den in the Glen

I run off instinct like most and probably like most, it's usually a good indicator that rarely fails me. In RL I got it wrong once or twice, but always happy to change my opinion. One of the few mantras I stand by is 'a mate of a mate is always a mate' and that has never failed me. Someone on a thread a while back eluded to this about the company you keep reflects you.

On here. It's different purely because I don't know and haven't met 99.9% of people and never will. Sure there have been people that I disagree with and visa versa. So what, that's life. There are a myriad of personalities on here and as long as they stay true to themselves, fair play.

We all form opinions based on forum threads. I kind of know who I would enjoy a beer with and those who I probably struggle with but in relevance to your question I don't think I would be far off the mark but would remain open minded and happy to be corrected.

Yep. Had a uni friend who I strongly disliked for the first year of knowing her. She ended up back at my place after a night out with mutual friends, and we talked properly over the old peace pipe, and 20+ years later we're still great friends.

Sometimes you just need to dig a bit below the masks people wear to see the real person.

No, if I've taken a dislike to someone, it's usually for a good reason. On the odd occasion where its just been a gut instinct, I've tried to look past it but have still found I can't warm to said people. So I take the approach of just being civil and polite but not purposely allowing them near me where possible.

I'm sure one day though, I'll have my mind pleasantly changed

In a ball gown because that's how we roll in N. Devon

I've actually not been wrong when I've thought that someone is an utter dick up front. It doesn't happen often though.

I've often been wrong when I've thought that they're a person I'd like. Some people have been very good at hiding their dickheadedness.

More often than not I tend to try and keep an open mind about people until I have personal experience of them. This is actually something that it took me a very long time to learn, and I still struggle sometimes.

I don't necessarily think it's true that a mate of a mate will be your kind of person though... I get on well with people that some of my closest friends don't like and I think some of their friends are dickheads.

Its usually the other way around.

People I thought were good people , turn out not to be.

Usually if I don't like you from the outset, I'm right.

About 3 feet away from the fence

My first impression is usually the right one.

By trying to give people I didn't like the opportunity to prove me wrong, often turns out to be just delaying the inevitable.

Yes both ways, I've well maybe not disliked but not liked people then met them in reality and they have been great whereas on fab I'd have not looked twice.

It's why I prefer meeting at socials it's hard to guage a person on here.

No. I’m always prepared to give people the benefit of the doubt to begin with. But I have experienced the reverse, in that I’ve built friendships with people who for some reason have grown to not like me after a while.

I’m more of the opposite, I tend to see everyone as alright, until they show me otherwise.
