Not a roast dinner crime - for me, that's indiscriminately serving Yorkshire pudding when it's not roast beef - but mushy peas that are just crushed garden peas; no!

I don't think mint sauce and gravy go well together. So when I worked at a hotel last year that did a Sunday roast, and someone had poured their gravy all over their food and then asked for some mint sauce, I used to always wonder why?

Why? Really, leave something to dip in your mint sauce and I'll get the request, but when you food is swimming in gravy, what is the point of mint sauce?

Reply privatelyReply in forumReply +quote

There's a few 'roast dinner crimes'....

1. Not Adding Meat Juice To Gravy....or Not Making The Gravy In The Roasting Tin.

2. Not Basting The Meat.

3. Not Allowing The Meat To Sit For At Least 10 Mins Before Carving.

4. Not Wrapping Meat In Tin Foil To Maintain Juices.

5. Not Adding Butter Or Seasoning To Mashed Potatoes.

6. Not Seasoning Vegetables Or Roast Potatoes.

I actually know a couple who cook exactly like that....their roast dinners are completely & utterly bland....so much so I decline their offers of an invite to dinner.

I wish I could post a pic on here of the roast where I'm staying - currently in Lanzarote & there are theme nights for the buffet - no surprise Sunday is British/ roast...

To be fair the meat is half decent but it ends there - buffet consists of:

NO Roasties

Instant Mash

Tinned carrots

Tinned peas

Frozen broccoli

Frozen cauliflower (with lumpy cheese sauce)

....and watery, cold gravy

Needles to say I stuck to the local options on Sunday! x
