Was the original line of the Prodigy great song

Sadly Keith Flint has died and reports that the lyric has been altered to Change my Bitch Up.

And the point is..

It's all over the news

In the new video to "No Good Start The Dance", in the wall smashing scene, he now has - hard hat, goggles, dust mask, gloves, hiviz-vest, steel toe caps, a full risk assessment and permit to work.

Far too many canceled stuff for the sake of it nowadays.

Talking this afternoon about how many Christmas songs are now impossible to listen to if you look into something.

"Watched them live in Leeds other week , they changed it to change my pitch up "

But wasn't that always the other line of the song?

"The song's lyrics, often held as misogynistic, were defended by the band, saying that the lyrics were being misinterpreted and the song actually meant "...doing anything intensely..." From Fader, a music newsletter.

Gbat

Yeah now just sing change my pitch up twice , replacing the smack my bitch up line , which is disappointing

Essex

Is it any different than the lyric in fairytale of New York being changed?

To me it’s a travesty. The art is the art.

What next clothes on David?

When all said and done a faggot is depending on where you are from, a savoury meat dish, or a bundle of sticks bound together for fuel.

Yes it has been used as a derogatory term for a gay man. But that’s the point in the song she is insulting him for being a total arse and taking her dreams promising the earth and delivering misery.

Are we going to make NWA change their name to Black persons with a certain outlook?

The world has gone fucking mad. Fucking #toomanysnowflakes

There is an irony in as much as the word "smack" in that context is unacceptable to whomever felt the need to amend it but continuing to refer to a woman as "my bitch" is totally ok.

Amusing.

.

They are repeating the line "change my pitch up", smack my bitch up has now been dropped completely.

I'm not really that arsed about them changing it. That lyric isn't even theirs eitherway, it's sampled public enemy and it's also a ridiculously good breakbeat track with or without that lyric.

Norwichish

To be fair it’s not like it was welcomed on its release either, courted a fair bit of controversy. But like any music fan I listened to the band who said “that’s not what we mean”

It’s a 25 year old song.

Here’s the real thing though. Is it really going to affect your life? If you own the original you can still enjoy the original lyrics, if you go to a gig one song may let you down but I’m sure you wouldn’t care in the moment.

So where are we left with another argument of culture wars where older people will tel ll young people that they are snowflakes.

But whisper it….they are now behaving like their parents who used to dislike the music they listened to and the way they behaved and the way they wanted to live their lives.

Time moves on, values change. Deal with it and then have a look around at the more important issues.
