"Seen Iron Maiden twice live so get my vote not the wife's type of music." *** So she prefers Helloween?

"Maidens first few albums. Lost a bit of interest after Live After Death. Helloweens singer has a better voice than Dickenson after Number of the Beast. I think that tour took a bit out of Dickensons voice." *** He was always struggling with high notes, but it was a good fit to most Maiden songs. Kiske was 19 when they recorded the Keepers album. He's now better than ever at 55. Best metal singer ever. Even better than my favourite Tobias Sammet. Crystal clear really low and really high range. Makes me laugh when I see articles on the internet about Axl Rose has the biggest range. He has the biggest rage probably.

"Maiden are the first band I got into and I've only listened to one Halloween album (Pink Bubbles) so I've gotta say Maiden. Thanks to this thread though I now have Helloweens greatest hits playing Iced Earth are ok too, although a bit formulaic " *** You're welcome

"Also, now would be a good time to mention The Iron Maidens- the worlds number one female Iron Maiden tribute act" *** It was going to be more of a Helloween tribute thread rather than Iron Maiden. I knew most people would say Iron Maiden straight away, but I was expecting more than 1 person checking out Helloween. Obviously Iron Maiden is British and more famous than Helloween. Iron Maiden would be different without Helloween.

Interesting fact is, that 70's Scorpions is in the NWOBHM genre/category. Anyway, Helloween sounded more Maiden before Maiden did. Do not misunderstand me please, I love Maiden.

"I've never liked iron maiden..apart from the first album..I like far more by Helloween..." *** Which one? I preferred them with M.Kiske, but I liked K.Hasen as a singer too. A.Deris not that much. The new Helloween with all 3 singers is quite good, even with A.Deris in it.

"Iron Maiden up to Seventh Son great, after that is all so so, Helloween, Walls of Jericho and Keeper of the 7 Keys are the essentials, after that there is some good and some ok, When Kai Hansen formed Gamma Ray Helloween lost a lot. Grab a listen to Powerplant and No World Order " *** I do listen to Gamma Ray, but I prefered Kai in Helloween. Funnily he could manage to be lead singer and lead guitarist in Gamma Ray.

"There is also the issue that the two band play different genres of metal. Maiden move between hard rock, heavy rock and heavy metal, with an occasional foray into the power metal genre, whereas Helloween are all power metal. Maiden got airplay so people heard their music, in the 80s there was no way Helloween were going to get airplay on Uk mainstream radio" *** Helloween songs aren't all power metal either, but yes you have a point there. Helloween had only "I want out" played on MTV.

"I now need to listen to some power metal" *** Avantasia, Edguy, Hammerfall or Stratovarius I'd recommend.

I'm talking early Halloween...up to keeper of the 7 keys..I have a compilation treasure chest and best of the noise years..to tell the truth I find some of the later stuff horrendous..far too nice.. I'm more into heavier stuff on the whole..

"Lost respect for maiden when they shafted blaze Bailey.. who I thought did a good job filling Bruce's shoes!!" Apart from the fact that Blaze shafted his so called "best mates" in Wolfesbane. Terrible singer and in my opinion from personal interactions. A bit of a twat. Dickinson, however, along with the other Maiden boys. Lovely chaps, and really good at pool

If you were a true friend, you too, wouldnt let your mates not take up that opportunity. Agree though. Not the greatest of singers. R

If you were a true friend, you too, wouldnt let your mates not take up that opportunity. Agree though. Not the greatest of singers. R" Despite all the bad blood over their careers bands across the board get back together to tour. SABBATH a prime example. The fact remains though that Blaze on more than one occasion categorically denied he was heading for Maiden, insisting that he would never split Wolfesbane up as they were his "best mates and the band was his life"... The whole episode left a bad taste in the mouth, and a dark dark period in Maidens career in my opinion (I'm sure many loved Blaze era Maiden.. not me) Never much a fan of Wolfesbane, certainly not a fan of Blaze. And that's more to do with personal experience. And I will never pay for Blaze/Maiden output.

"Love both. Keeper 1 & 2 albums are just amazing and Michael Kiske kicks Bruce's arsenal with vocals. Maiden better band though...." *** Kiske kicks most metal singers arse. He's not even in my top 3 favourite singers list, but he was and he is still probably the best. He made some bad choices after leaving Helloween. Avantasia put him to shine again. Now Helloween again, but none of them really commercial bands. Iron Maiden probably has the most radio friendly metal songs compared to others. I prefer the ones too heavy for commercial radio play.

"I thinks its fair to say Iron Maiden influenced Helloween. 80's Iron Maiden was stronger, early 90's (before Kiske left) was Helloween. Maiden have gone all Prog-Rock now, not heard much new Helloween so can't comment now. Bruce Dickinson's solo stuff has been much better than the same era Maiden equivalent. " *** I think it was the other way, but... They were definitely some kind of rivals in the 80's. Obviously Iron Maiden enjoyed more commercial success. I think at some point they were in the same record label, but Helloween was held back by a previous record label contract.

Definitely not thrash metal, just listen to it. Maiden had a different style first, even when Bruce joined. I will check it out now when they started to sound similar.
