So after just watching an episode of Catfish it makes me think if I could be “caught” in that way?

How do you protect yourself from potential catfish on here?

Ask for a video call?

Verifications and photos can be fake verified.

So what do you do?

We make a judgement on whether the verifications are real or fake, most are easy to tell. We'll arrange to meet at a club, if they don't turn up we're having a good night anyway

I've been here 7 years and never had a no show or been catfished.

In fact I've never even chatted to a fake profile.

I find them really easy to spot so they aren't even an inconvenience.

I've never needed a video chat either and I don't use verifications to decide if someone is genuine.

The problem with saying what they are is that people then change their behaviour to get around that which is why I never give advice on profile review threads.

I much prefer to see the real them rather than a boxticking exercise.

That would be a timeaster.. if they turn up and arent who they were in the pic that is a catfish

Suppose the only way to not be catfished is to facetime with them and always go with ur gut instincts

Everyone is a Catfish in some way, just different degrees.

Depends on why for me.

I've happily chatted to a man pretending to be a woman for months because s/he was cool.

It's immediately obvious to many women when men do that. Can't explain why.

Once been kitten fished... Fella turned up and had that aged beyond his years, grey look of a heavy smoker that wasn't evident from the face pics he had supplied. Other than that, everyone I have met have looked just like their photos.

Photos can be really deceptive. Clever angles. Filters.

I am open about my “bag”. If that doesn’t suit others then so be it because any “deception” will be soon found out if and when you meet

I am same if someone can’t be bothered this day and age to do a few min vid call I just view it we are incompatible on how safety / meets with strangers are working

Each to their own and I am certainly not going to worry about not meeting a stranger by any means.

There is so many ways to hide your number for a cam chat or even use a dead cam room here

People have to work how they work. Only time I won’t bother with s vid chat is if I am going to a club / party so I couldn’t really careless then if they no show or are not what they said.

Isn’t it really just a case of not letting your genitalia rule your head, and going through your own checklist… and if someone doesn’t meet them for any reason then don’t let them compromise

It’s very much a learning process.. no two people are going to be the same

My checklist works for me…. Could I probably have met more people if I loosened them.. sure

But I can count the number of times I have been catfished in the many years I have doing this on one hand

It's both frustrating and an absolute waste of precious time!

I hate video calls but will if I have a feeling they aren't being entirely truthful but always a social 1st.

We rarely meet off fab anyway I prefer to meet at the organised socials there's zero chance of being catfished there, face to face is so much easier.

Obviously would video call for Wilts but generally I would find it pretty awkward, I don't really like video calls and I wouldn't dress femme for a short call so won't look like my pics anyway. But if I wanted to meet them and it made them feel safer then sure. I would rather meet in a public place though to see if we vibe, a lot of rapport gets lost in a call.
