Stockport the drivers friend, I've had so many tickets from that council, that I get the bus whenever I go there now which isn't often.

Why? He's just doing his job?

Would you appreiate being given a load of abuse for doing yours?

Nobody is issued a parking ticket unless they have parked somewhere where they shouldn't.

So, to put it another way, you're the one in the wrong, but think it perfectly acceptable to verbally abuse someoe about it.

Nope.

You're being just like those who moan about speed cameras. There's a very simple way to avoid getting a ticket.

It's not like there isn't any signage around telling you where you can't park.

I've a feeling this hasn't gone as well as the OP expected.

In other news, why abuse someone when you're in the wrong? These restrictions are in place to stop people parking dangerously, or discourteously.

I'm not an angry person. I'd have been annoyed at myself for parking there, and annoyed that I can't do my job because there's nowhere to park.

To answer the headline question, I have no idea why people would want to do that job, other than the lack of better alternatives. It’s an unpopular job, and some people seem to feel that it is acceptable to abuse them for simply doing their job … awful behaviour.

Proper old school traffic wardens that were police employed, used to show a little commons sense and knew the streets they walked.

Now, the “Civil Enforcement Officers” are just drones that operate on a ticket every vehicle, and worry about the appeals later method.

Absolutely correct.A lot are issued incorrectly but people assume they are valid, whilst wardens do nothing about real problems, parking on the pavement, zig zags, against the flow of traffic(not in a marked bay),within ten metres of a road junction etc.

If you have parked illegally expect to get booked, if you have parked legally and get booked produce the evidence and contest it, simples and charge them for your time.

No I don't understand why anyone would want to do that for a job. But I like them more than solicitors and estate agents!

When I was younger I used to think it was funny that if I saw a warden putting a ticket on a car I ran over and begged him not to ticket me

After the ticket has already been issued speech. I used to keep playing him and giving him excuses until he got annoyed and then tell him I didn't care as it wasn't my car.

Childish I know!

I think it was just the machine that he wanted inserted in the warden’s arse. The ticket itself would have been stuck securely to illegally parked vehicle.

I do hope the warden reported the incident to the police, only way behaviour like this will be stamped out.

I'd happily be a traffic warden. People park in dangerous and awkward places making it dangerous for all other road users.

The worst ones are people that park half on the pavement so people can't walk by and the road has double yellows so they're blocking the road as well.

I'd give the two tickets for two offences.

I don’t get why people are so upset at the council earning money from parking. If people are stupid enough to not work out how to avoid getting a ticket then I think the councils should take them for as much as they can. Let’s call it a stupidity tax.

If people _really_ want to stick it to the man then why don’t they deprive the council of the revenue stream by not getting a ticket? That will show them!!!!

Absolutely revenue generators for local councils, that said, some of them revel in the so called application of the law!

Always appeal every ticket simply because you never know.

Here’s one to warm your heart, ticketed at a notorious spot in Maidstone, I’d actually paid for the parking but it had dropped off the dashboard and the previous days ticket was still visible!

Dude was ticketing close by so I strolled over to explain, he was having absolutely none of it, even though it was obvious I had paid.

I told him I’d complain as well as appeal and he laughed and said, “fill your boots mate”.

Arrived home and my daughter rolls her eyes, reminds me I’m away for months the following week and she’s not dealing with it in my absence

Begrudgingly I logged on to just pay the fine and move on with life, but couldn’t find the ticket on the council system; daughter takes over and then we realised the dude had noted my registration down incorrectly, the ticket he’d produced was actually invalid!

Genuinely made my month

I live down the road from Stockport and I can say they stick it to the driver, if you are ever on the orbital motorway when you come to the stockport part you are slowed to 40 no reason given cameras everywhere goes for about 3/4 miles, then to park in stockport is bad as well no where is free.

But before you all get on me, on realising how stockport council works I either avoid the place, or get the bus, plus I have wrote to stockport council stating I did shop there but I no longer due to the attitude they have towards drivers.

same with Manchester City centre not been there for years it is a trap for the driver so I just don't go.

Why doesn't your employer arrange for the deliveries to be made at night when you aren't blocking the street for everyone else who is also trying to go about their day?

Also, a lot of double yellow lines actually allow you to park to load or unload. If you were on a different sort of line, then you weren't parked in the right place to do your job properly.

Being a traffic warden (or other title) is a shit job, but it does pay a wage. People also moan like fuck when the roads and car parks are gridlocked, but don't seem to like the rules which try and prevent that happening.

I think you were bang out of order being abusive when you were the one at fault.

Yes, I've had a ticket, but no, I didn't verbally abuse anyone in the process.

All over

I can see this has got out of control. I am also pretty sure or at least hope that the OP's reaction was probably not really as stated. As many said, they are doing their job and nobody should be abused for doing their job. There are thougn some very shady practices going on in that profession from total lack of common sense when they see that there is no other way apart from someone parking for a minute to drop somrone off for example who could not walk the distance to much worse. I was given a ticket once for appatently parking close enough to where I had parked earlier and was not allowed a return. This was even though I parked several streets away and came back just before he was about to issue the ticket and I explaned I had no idea this was classed as the same area. He just laughed and issued the ticket. Yes I was annoyed as how was I supposed to know it was classed as the same area but I just shook my head and left. I did subsequently appeal and they cancelled it. Sadly these days common sense and compasion is rather scarse. On the other hand we can't go around breaking rules either

One tip, don’t wait for the ticket, even if they’ve started writing it, they’re not valid until handed to the driver or placed on the windscreen.

I couldn’t do the job the abuse would just put me off. But I do respect those that can as there are reasons why those yellow lines are painted.

Admit it, if we removed every double yellow line or parking restriction that your average motorist would just park anywhere and in a lot of cases dangerously. Ambulance, Firefighters and Police vehicles not being able to get to an emergency due to the way drivers would be leaving their cars.

Never had a parking fine before anyone starts and wouldn’t abuse anyone if they pulled me up for my ignorance or obvious flouting of the law.

couple, us we him her.

I received a ticket once on the road behind McDonald's in Twickenham I was gone ten minutes when I got back I had a ticket.

Now when I purchased my ticket from the machine the traffic warden was standing next to the machine I even said hello and he said hello back.

When I got the fine I asked him why he informed me that I hadn't displayed a valid ticket, upon inspection the machine had printed two tickets one with the information one blank I hadn't seen it when I stuck the ticket on the inside of the window.

I politely discussed with the warden who then informed me that he knew of the fault with the machine Which is why he was waiting for an engineer but he said it was my responsibility to check the ticket, even though he could have easily said it was broken and advised me to check or use another machine.

So there used to be a parking shop in Twickenham you could go in pay fines etc...

I went there and about ten people all explaining to the manager exactly what I was there to complain about.

We all got our fines dismissed, I was chatting with one of the other people when I overheard the manager on the radio ordering the warden back to the office and subsequently heard him saying to another warden that "this is the last time this is going to happen and he was going to get fired"

Sadly these days it's impossible to talk with a person face to face it's all on-line so makes you wonder how many parking fines are illegally issued and get payed without it being contested?

I agree in general most wardens are power hungry dicks and probably servants of satan but pointless arguing with them, they probably hear a thousand excuses every week and get desensitised to sympathise with anyone.

I'd say you have to have a special personality to be a warden same people who are bailiffs and tax collectors.

A job is a job. It puts food on the table, pays the bills and can even give you a sense of pride.

Not everyone can be whatever you perceive is a worthy job. Without traffic wardens towns and cities become chaos. Emergency services can’t get through

People parking so wheelchair users or pram users or anyone has to walk on the public highway

Surely the person in question should be congratulated for having a job and following the rules of that job rather than going home knowing he has been threatened. No one, no one, deserves to be threatened for doing their job.

He could’ve reported you to the police

Yeah, OP has given no indication in his posts that his account of verbal abuse was not true.

In fact, he seems to be boasting about it, and it looks as though he expected is all to laugh along with him.

If you don’t like the parking restrictions or road markings, take that up with the council. Abusing the person who is enforcing the restrictions is not the right answer.

"To pay the damn bills, fees and house the kids, like anyone in a job.

I don’t park like a selfish dick and surprisingly I don’t get tickets. Simple.

wow . Calm down . Get a glass of red down you . Relax it is Saturday

And what’s next on your list of easy targets?

Cyclists?

Wonder if that’ll backfire on you too? sorry said Newquay . Medway . Was a matelot in Chatham . Lovely place .

Hopefully the poor guy that you verbally abuse has managed to move on too.

Perhaps he’ll see you in the pub when he’s out of uniform one day soon to demonstrate his feelings on the matter. are you insinuating he might clobber me . Shame on you . "

Well he was an easy target wasn’t he?

The fact you knew he couldn’t retaliate gave you all the courage that you almost certainly needed.

This thread hasn’t gone as well as you’d hoped obviously. .

The way i look at it if we didnt have traffic wardens to ticket people from parking willy nilly where they want .it would be absolute chaos town and city centers would be grid locked by badly parked idiots .i see them as a necessary evil .

"Why? He's just doing his job?

Would you appreiate being given a load of abuse for doing yours?

Nobody is issued a parking ticket unless they have parked somewhere where they shouldn't.

So, to put it another way, you're the one in the wrong, but think it perfectly acceptable to verbally abuse someoe about it.

"

Spot on! Same as people who speed moaning when they get a ticket for speeding

I would love to be a traffic warden just to wind people up. I bet its a great job

You hang in there Busy, I’m with you.

Delivery driver trying to make delivery is not like someone parking up and buggering of with vehicle left there unattended.

If the warden had an ounce of sense he’d have just told you to make it quick and get moving again, like , “I’m going to walk up that road, when I come back I don’t want to see you here”.

If the delivery drivers around here didn’t stop illegally there wouldn’t be much getting delivered.

Dude, roaring abuse at somebody who is just doing their job is not a “funny” post for us all to have a laugh at. You seem to relate that now.

I have asked you several times now why you feel it is ok to behave like that; and each time you have ducked the question.

Initially, I found it incredible that you would behave like that in public, particularly when the TW has your reg, can easily identify you, and is under instruction to report abuse.

But as this thread has gone on, I am finding it easier to believe … zero attempt to explain why you felt it ok to behave like that, clear signs that you thought it was all a bit laugh, and then snapping at anyone who didn’t join in the laughs

So I’ll leave it now, and have to draw my own conclusions.
