When is the last time you received a compliment? Do you believe them, or take it for what it was intended? And do you often give them?

What’s the biggest compliment you can be given?

The most recent ones have complimented my character or how my arse looks in jeans.

The most recent I have given have been to compliment them on how good a friend and how valued they are.

I can't remember if ever getting a compliment from a complete stranger and I know I've never given one to someone I don't know.

How I receive a compliment depends entirely on the person giving it and how genuine I know them and therefore their compliment to be rather than just lip service.

.

Yesterday. I received a few actually and I'm not talking about on Fab, I mean face to face.

It's really situational, it's not as simple as yes or no. I try to believe them but also being aware of the environment they're given.

I wouldn't say I often give them but if I genuinely mean something I'm more than happy to say it.

The biggest compliment for me? When people want to spend time with me. Listen to me, talk to me, do whatever. Not because I've got a couple of cute holes but because I'm me.

I'm weird with compliments if it's someone I know I'll believe them maybe, if it's some randomer then I just assume he wants a hole to stick it in and generally won't believe them.

I'm more likely to accept a compliment from a woman, don't ask me why?

I do give out compliments if I mean them.

On my work I get compliments plenty, and from friends and family yes but I find them all a little hard to take and maybe the work ones a bit obligatory. The later because they usually come at those times when I'm not quite as happy as normal. Though, those are probably the best times to receive compliments.

I think this is quite an interesting societal behaviour. When we’re out as a couple Jen will receive lots of compliments from random strangers - on hair, clothes, make up, pick random thing - whereas Paul rarely gets any.

I guess this could be an indication of Paul, but it feels like men in general give and receive compliments far less often than women. Which is a shame.

This is not rare, men do not get compliments. Or if we do, we can remember when/where/who gave it, what exactly was said. It stays with us, we appreciate it a lot. We like them just as much as anyone else would. But why are people afraid to give them,

Or do we simply not deserve em?

When someone says you (or anyone) is intelligent what they really mean is they are intelligent enough to see you are intelligent. So they complimenting themselves and letting you have an ego improving stroke of their compliment. Probably. I’ve been known to be ‘wrong’.

I received a compliment from a stranger on here this morning but that means nothing to me. Compliments only mean something if the person says it to my face and it's without any ulterior motives behind it.

One of the best compliments is when someone who is close to me tells me how good a Mum I am to my children. That really counts to me.

Colchester

I had one at work the other week. A staff member thanked me for resolving an issue. Then they emailed my boss their thanks. Then my boss came over and thanked me.

.

And inside I was like "WTF is all this nonsense ? I'm just doing my job. Like I do every day. I get paid to do this. THAT is my thanks."

.

Then internally, I started thinking transactionally of the interactions.

A surplus of 3 additional interactions that were completely unnecessary.

Essential Action 1 : Person asks me for help.

Essential Action 2 : I help person

(Balance Restored)

Non-Essential Action 3 : Person thanks me for something I am paid to do.

Non-Essential Action 4 : Person contacts my boss to express their thanks

Non-Essential Action 5 : Boss thanks me

.

I could break it down further because each of the Non-Essential Actions involves the time of 2 people.

.

So after balance was restored, 6 additional actions occurred that were not necessary.

Non-Essential Action 5 was detrimental to me, as it interrupted me assisting another person and delayed things for a moment, which annoyed them.

.

So yeah, I neither like to give compliments nor receive them. I find them superfluous, personally.

.

People are odd (tongue in cheeck)
