All the time leading upto, during and after a very successful olympics its been announced the place where jessica ennis trains is to be closed.

Yes i know and accept finances are tight but what sort of image does this give out.

The legacy seems to be thanks to all participants but you will need to find other places to train the same applies to up and coming and future olympians. Very disappointing.

Council says it was running at a loss which makes me think what were the managenent actually doing.

.

In the news they said they were subsidising each person by £5.00.

So if they were charging £5.00, thats a 50% loss. Who but the Banks can afford that

Not saying from business side they are wrong but surely marketing looks poor. That being said it cant be easy.

Just think its a sad day.

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

Unfortunately there is a mis-match between what has been available, what local authorities can afford and what the legacy funds can pay for. The Big Lottery announced a fund specifically for sport and communities as a result of the Olympics just recently. Local authorities can look at this along with other partners but that fund and the funds that independent trusts have put up for Olympic legacy won't cover everything that is being lost because of the austerity cuts.

Local authorities that didn't front load their cuts are going to have to make them from April. More things will be lost.

Any reason you've decided it must be management's fault or could you just not be bothered actually thinking about it and needed someone to be pissed off with?

Reason i say management at fault for it running at loss is the clue in the title management.

Who else is responsible for making businesses run at profit or loss. Am puzzled how anyone else is responsible why not blame jess ennis if that helps.

I blame it all on the Polish

Come over here taking all our minimum wage jobs no one wants, then not using any of the local sub standard facilities the council over charge for.

Who else is there to blame

Ok, so you're one of these people who just can't see anything you don't like, ever, without having to blame someone then? I mean, it's not even entered your head that it might be nobody's fault and an athletics track is actually just quite expensive to maintain?

Who else is there to blame? Has anyone mentioned bankers yet?

Hang on, yes. Yes they have.

I think that's everyone then.

Never said not expensive to maintain far from it but you cannot seriously believe no one is to blame. Its not just bust overnight probably struggled for ages which makes it clearer management somewhere along line should have seen this coming. That being said perhaps they did all they could but end of day management accept praise when things go good so must accept criticism when it goes wrong

Rugby

The management are the local authority.

There access to funding has been pared back to the bone.

The lottery were made to pay a lot for the olympics, which then reduced the money given at a lower level, it was claimed that this money would be repaid to the lottery, which maybe could go towards facilities and projects away from London.

Spain, Lancs

Close it down. Who cares? Far too much is spent on a handful of people. If the runners really want it then they should pay.

You seem very confused about this. Why are you assuming that nobody saw 'this' coming? What part of 'this' are we even talking about - it's not exactly a sports facility manager's job to predict a national recession and subsequent council budget cuts, is it?

What makes you even think that the place running at a loss means something is going wrong? Most hospitals run at enormous losses, whose fault do you want to say that is?

you've only given half the picture there. Yes, Don Valley is closing due to it being run at a loss, but Sheffield Council will be refurbishing and reopening the smaller Woodburn Road Athletics Stadium, so it's not as though Sheffield athletes won't have anywhere to train - they just won't have access to a 400m track.

It shouldn't be down the Sheffield taxpayers who aren't interested in athletics to fund a stadium that is being run at a loss for a few people who do participate/watch athletics (I say a few because if it was many it wouldn't be running at a loss).
