Is often considered to be the great tit but it’s not just about tits, you’ve got to love a red breast (robin) and for the ladies you’ve got cock (pheasant)

Remember folks, feeding birds and providing unfrozen water in winter is essential for keeping our feathered friends healthy during the coldest season.

I know it’s a bit boring but I love watching them and if just 1 person decides to provide food and water in their garden that haven’t before it’s been worth it.

What birds “feathered” visit your garden

I had a sparrow hawk visit once

We’ve a regular woodpecker. Also had buzzard, sparrow hawk, barn owl. Usually the garden is full of tits - blue, great and coal (interesting they call them tit mice), robins (throwing their wee hardman weight about the garden), sparrows, blackbirds, thrush and bloody magpies!! R

They are working their way out along the Thames from London. 10 years ago would see an occasional one when out for a walk, now we get up to 10 at a time in the garden. Stunning birds.

Other favourite visitors include woodpeckers and the occasional jay. We see buzzards but they don’t come into the garden

There has a been a huge population of them around Richmond for a few decades, and they have worked their way out along the river.

Now starting to be spotted more around Wallingford, so not far off reaching Oxford.

Don't they equate a robin hanging around as being a departed person looking out for you

My nan’s spare room.

I’m lucky as I get a lot of feathered friends in the garden.

4 species of tits, blackbirds, robin, collard doves, pigeons, the occasional sparrow hawk, but my favourite is the beautiful goldfinches.

I’ve noticed this year there’s a lot less chaffinches about though.

Our garden backs on to some parkland and farmed fields. We have buzzards flying over quite a bit, and have had a sparrowhawk take pigeons in our garden (the pigeons like to sit on the roof bars of our car, but it makes them sitting ducks. Or sitting pigeons). Makes a right mess!
