Acceptable in the 00s/90s/80s....

Whilst in my mums garage I discovered a bunch of old nuts and zoo magazines from my younger years.

Had a wee flip through some of them and there where a few things I was surprised at that would absolutely not fly now. One thing in particular stood out to me was a rate her arse feature. Now this wasn't guys sending in photos of their girlfriends posing for the camera. It was guys taking photos of womens arse on the street, in the shops at the bus stop etc. Things that would place you on a register.

Struck me as crazy it was treated as banter. Made me think of all the things in the past that were OK but we look at them with disdain now.

It was more the attacking and serious allegations towards a member that the posts were removed for.

Can we get back to the OP please, which is what was deemed "acceptable" in a different era rather than attack men for answering the OP

Disciplining naughty and disrespectful children. A good clip round the ear did me a power of good back in the day but the same act can land you in hot water today.

Harasement of the gay and bisexual community which was definately rife in my youth and thankfully became less so. Although l, unfortunately, it is currently becoming more common again as we see a rise in popularism and I think some carry over from the anti-transgender rhetoric being promited by some of our politicians and mainstream media organisations.

Pre 9/11 (I think I would have been 10 at the time) I was allowed to see the inside of a planes cockpit whilst we where flying back from holiday.

Absolutely no way would a child get anywhere near one now.

My observation would have been that overall, MSM (real media) are strong supporters of inclusivity, rights, respect etc

We did this summer! Plane was delayed for an hour so all the kids were offered the chance to go and chat to the pilots and look at the dashboard (is it called that in a plane?! )

My son sat in the co-pilot’s chair!

Zoo, Nuts etc was out of step with the times even then. A fairly short-lived anomaly. “New lad” fad, deliberately out of step, trying to be outrageous.

I remember those little foil ashtrays in McDonald's with the McDonald's logo imprinted into it.

My kids don't even believe people use to smoke in there. Or been ask 'smoking or none smoking' as you checked in for a flight

Actually, a lot of the media is populated with radfems and transphobes and they get away with printing false information in the guise of opinion, mail, guardian, times are three that stand out.

In the sporting world the anti trans movement is rife with discrimination being based on scientific theories/assumptions, fake concerns of womens 'safey', and fair play.

Transphobia and homophobia is being fuelled by right wing religious extremists around the world.

I know what you’re saying and undercover cheeky bum photos (are wrong) re rating them in a magazine etc

I guess only a woman can say from experience but from having a daughter modern life hasn’t improved and seems worse for women now than 20 years ago ?

I really struggle with forms of discrimination being described as “phobias”. Prejudice, lack of tolerance etc are not all grounded in fear.

As for sports, describing them as “anti trans movement” is unfair.

I'm not going to comment on the anti-trans stuff, as I'll just get angry and derail the thread.

However, nasty comments could be passed off as 'banter' back then.

'Don't bend over near him.'

Making jokes about disabilities and punching down with them.

Asking people of colour where they're from.

Guys rating the women in an office or factory on looks and sex appeal.

Being asked about the supposed sexual peccadillos of women soldiers by officers and NCOs.

In many ways we're moving forwards, but do seem to have gone backwards a bit recently.
