Anyone excited about the new Doctor Who tonight?

We very much are in this house. Well the girls are anyway. The husband and sons can go sit somewhere quietly while the daughter and I enjoy it later.

We've been looking forward to it all year.

We even started watching the original Doctor Who on iPlayer when it went up. I really do enjoy the old fashioned sexism

Will you be watching? On or behind the sofa?

We're back to David Tennant for a few episodes then it's Ncuti Gatwa. Which is great for me as David Tennant is my favourite Doctor, and I love Ncuti Gatwa in Sex Education

Never seen an episode but sort of wish I had. Just checked how long it would take to catch up, way over a month of solid watching...

I don't think it will happen.

It does. It's been a long wait since the last new episodes. But my daughter has gone through every episode (since Christopher Ecclestone) on iPlayer twice this year. So we haven't had that much time away from it

That's because Chris Chibnall was a shit writer.

Back to Russell T Davies now, so has potential to be good. Though it is now also funded by Disney, so bigger budget and resources but questionable on the control BBC has over things.

The David Tennant and Matt Smith run was by far the best. Each for different reasons.

" Anyone excited about the new Doctor Who tonight?"

No.

I’ve really tried, but it’s no longer the 1980s and there’s no longer only the three channels.

There’s so much better stuff out there nowadays.

I used to love Dr Who - the Russell T Davies/Steven Moffat story arcs were great but Chibnall was so poor and he really killed what should have been an excellent female Dr in Jodie Whittaker. I stopped watching and will find it hard to get back into it. A real shame.

I thought that on my first viewing as well. The stories bored me and there just wasn't any joy in it. Then my daughter decided to watch Every Single Episode*. Then she watched them *all* again. And she loved them. And on rewatching them I enjoyed them more too. I even found Bradley Walsh's acting improved on further viewing - which was a shock. Maybe the secret is to watch them with an excitable 8 year old

*Apart from "Blink". She loved that so much I must have seen it 6 times now

That’s a lie. I’ve tried a few recent ones, but they were mostly running around looking surprised.

The Tennant era is definitely the best of “New Who” so hoping it’s decent.

Not gonna lie, I’ve kind of fallen out of love with the show in recent years, the story telling has been weak for some time.

Maybe I’m just too old for a kids show now?

Anyway, no doubt I’ll watch.

But I’ll probably end up binge watching the classic series on iPlayer tbf

I'll watch it cos I like Sci-Fi.

But when will we see the 15 Dr Who???

Tennant's ok ish... but he's seen it bin it done it. Not much to see but I'll watch.

Give us the new one!!! So, 2024 then?

Watched the biography one about how they did it.... The actor who was the Janitor In Harry Potter (sorry I can't remember his acting name), was on BBC3 the other night. Brilliant as the actor portraying the Doctor!!! A role in a role kind of...

It was really good!!!

Loved "Classic Who" when I was a kid. Tried to get on board with the reboot, but it was so completely dreadful I didn't make it all the way through Ecclestone. I'm glad "New Who" exists and people are enjoying it, but it's not for me.

I had other things to do but caught the first few minutes and found it 'disturbing' to be on at that hour e.g. essentially a children's programme..... I don't feel compelled to go back to watch the rest....

Anyone going to say I should give it a chance..... cos I thought it was fucking bizarre and if I think it's bizarre then it's bizarre!!

I saw up to where they found babies in jars........ and someone called them mummy and daddy .......

I had high hopes with the Christmas special, I really wish we didn't have that gap in-between and they carried on the momentum.

1st episode wasn't too bad but the 2nd was like a poor version of what we've just seen with the toy master.

It's also nice to see the diversity that is going on but it's going so diverse now, it feels like anyone heterosexual is the odd one out, not saying anyone is an odd one out before anyone gets on their high horse lol.

Just watched episode 4, 73 Yards. Best episode of the season so far - spooky, chilling and full of mystery. And I say that as someone who isn't normally into that kind of horror.

I'd rate them so far;

Space Babies - 8/10

The Devil's Chord - 6/10

Boom - 7/10

73 Yards - 8.5/10.

Which episodes this season have had a minority heterosexual cast of main characters? Because today's didn't, and Boom didn't, and I don't think The Devil's Chord or Space Babies did.

There was a few references in the devils chord I noticed with Ruby saying about her gal friends girlfriends, it was never boyfriend, just something I noticed. Like I said, I am enjoying it, it feels fresh.

I really enjoyed last week's, I thought I'd hate it but loved it x

We're definitely enjoying the new series. I personally found the baby episode a little odd, and the singing at the end of the second episode was strange. But my kids love it. They've watched each episode 3 times already. They've been quoting it at each other. So as a family show it works brilliantly in our house. Got episode 4 to look forward to today

I ignore reviews of shows I like. Even reviewers are skewered by their own personal preferences. Seems fashionable to criticise Dr Who nowadays. Started happening since Jodie took over the mantle, with the sexist rants of men saying the dr can't be a woman. Now it's the same with a gay man and black playing the role. Complaining of the being woke, which it has always been.

The devil's chord was an improvement on the space babies. The villain was great (shock horror) a drag queen lol. The last episode boom was fantastic
