Black ones, and those who love them please step this way. May they be served simply, in a salad, onto a hand-stretched artisanal pizza (wood fired oven of course) or baked in the oven with pan-roasted vegetables...

For the dislikers — please move along in peace and harmony. †

Marks and Spencers sell a large tub of green and black olives marinated in garlic and lemon. They are delicious with a sliced beef steak tomato sprinkled with salt.

Otherwise served in a niçoise or a rich, garlicky tomato sauce with pasta or with the chopped tomatoes in a crab linguine.

Delicioso!

I think I tried one for the first time in my early 20's and couldn't decide if I liked it or not. Now I'm a big fan, especially of black olives with feta, but even things like the Tesco Finest olive bread, which is lovely dipped in some good quality olive oil with balsamic vinegar.

Imagine slightly chewy vegetable Benylin.

Texture similar to liquorice.

Goes well with red wine.

Not all olives are created equal. most commercial ones are small, bitter and taste soapy.

Black olives are particularly good with strawberries.
