Just thought I'd ask here? I have a 2016 Ford fiesta 1.2 petrol. With 60,000km on the clock and 1 owner from new, me being the second. It was serviced 5000km ago. I checked the oil level and it was down below half way? It is not leaking and I dont think it is not burning oil as it is no way smokey. My question is should I be concerned? Or do petrol cars normally need to be topped up with oil every so often? I'm really worried

Perfectly normal. Yes oil will occasionally need to be topped up. Maintain regular services and you'll be golden

Yes you need to top it up occasionally, put some in and keep an eye on it. If your needing to do it every other week then you could have a problem

Put some more oil in, then check it again in a couple of weeks, if it has gone down, you may have a problem, I'm not a mechanic, but try that first, whoever did the previous service might not have put enough in.

You shouldn't be needing to top it up after 5k miles.

Top it up and keep checking it regularly, and if it keeps going down go and get it looked at.

You can sometimes have a small leak around a part of the engine that you can't see and it gathers on that price of plastic that covers the engine from below.

If its in between the high and low marks on the dipstick then it's neither too high (full) or too low (risky). It's optimum where it is, my only suggestion is keep an eye on it, checking once a week unless you do high mileage, same day, same scenario, (engine cold or engine warm - not hot) in the same place, i.e. level ground. Then you'll get a better idea if it's leaking or burning oil and when to top up (when it gets to the lower mark).

Ford vehicles don't usually suffer excessive oil consumption, but I'd top it up if I were you.

As cars age, rubber seals can shrink and perish enough to weep a little leading to gradual oil loss.

It's always a good idea to keep an eye on your fluid levels.

I have a 2013 Mondeo Titanium X Sport with the 240HP Ecoboost and Powershift transmission. I do all my own servicing, always have so I can be sure of what's been done.

Just had to do a top up of transmission fluid - was planning a full fluid service on it in March anyway

You should check the oil level when it have been sat for an hour, if you have just been driving it may look low because it is all around the engine doing its job

Half way between max and min is perfect.

Every car will benefit from regular oil changes. Especially ford's and mercs.

Good quality oil at that.

Your engine oil works incredibly hard. If you only do short runs you should think about an oil change every 6000 to 8000 miles. Regular longer journeys every 10 to 12 thousand miles.

It's also the best performance improver for any vehicle.

.5 to 1.0 litre of oil top up over a year for a 60000 mile car is nothing to worry about.

It’s not a lot. About 250 ml. Leave it where it is and monitor

Modern oil is so thin it will just burn off through normal use. I’m not familiar with your engine, but it’s a modern petrol, so high power output, low capacity (1.2 litre) with a turbo, perfect for burning a bit of oil.

My last car was doing a litre every 10,000 miles.

Check it once a week with your lights and tyres

Cars DO consume some oil, the coating of parts allows miniscule amounts of oil to get to the parts where combustion happens.

A couple of pints of oil between services is totally normal, more on higher mileage vehicles.

Quite normal, unless you get close to failing an emmision test at MOT nothing to worry about and any remedy could well cost more than the car is worth unless its something simple like worn valve seals. I expect if you got hold of the manafacturers figures for excessive oil consumption it would be way in excess of this.
