British Puddings for Autumn/Winter

Jump to newest

Mayfair

What is the pinnacle of the traditional British pudding - specifically for Autumn and Winter?

I can crave any one of these 'comfort food offerings' but equally crave them all at the same time:

Spotted Dick, Fruit Crumble, Jam Roly-Poly, Bread & Butter Pudding, Treacle Sponge Pudding, Apple Pie. … . …

I much ·prefer· a traditional pudding that can be served with either custard or ice cream.

Essex

Autumn/winter = cinnamon

Cinnamon = apple

So apple pie probably. Not crumble, please. I detest crumble.

Pear & ginger is also very highly recommended but as a cake rather than a pie.

Ooh, I love a pudding. All of the above, but crumble is my favourite...at this time of year I'd be inclined to make apple with sultanas and plenty of cinnamon.

Chocolate fudge cake with cream

We had rhubarb, gooseberries, plums and blackberries growing in the family garden, so any of those things in crumbles with custard and ice cream will always feel like lazy Sunday afternoon teas to me

Rhubarb anything is great really.

I am with everyone above ^ who has suggested •cinnamon• — I do love all things cinnamon.

Mind you, I'm not averse to those who aren't into cinnamon either.

Oh I love piping hot jam roly poly with cold creamy custard. Ideally homemade.

I also love cara_elised apple puddings - like in a pie where the brown sugar is all syrupy and delicious. Cinnamon and apples is a perfect combination.

Love parkin.

I also really enjoy something less stodgy but still with an Autumnal nod - like fresh pavlova with thick whipped cream, lots of winter berries/dark berries and drizzled with a sloe gin syrup. So good.

Then when ready hot custard poured all over it. Nice & warming. Just right in winter. Drizzle Nestle condensed milk on top if yer need the sugar kick!!!!

Autumn / Winter puddings should stick to your bones so something like a steamed syrup sponge 'upside-down' pudding. But if you want something mid-week, a slice of Jamaican Ginger cake and custard hits the spot.

This is obviously the right answer.

I'll settle for an apple crumble (more crumble than apple) if all else fails!

I had a Cherry Pie last week, with full fat 'guilt-less' cream, Joe.

There used to be a pub somewhere in the Cotswolds called "The Pudding Club". It was all about puddings and beer. Next Fab Men's social will be held there. No women allowed, except mascots.

Vanilla yes, but I say NO! to booze in custard.
