There are many differences in the welsh accent. We have a south wales valleys accent, whereas in Cardiff the accent doesn't sound so welsh. It gets stronger as you go west and very strong and different in areas of north wales. I suppose we have the stereotypical welsh accent and we love it like innit

I'm part Welshish you know, my nan was from Abertillery and I have cousins there still. Whenever I'm working in Wales, part of me feels like I'm coming home.

A few years ago I asked someone where in Wales they were from, and they looked at me really angry "like". I am English he said, his wife said his father was Welsh, and he was astonished after I asked him to say something, I told him what part of South Wales his father was from, so its more than genes are passed down.

Every valley in the south has its own accent, Cardiff is different from Newport and are totally different from the Cardiff valleys only a couple of miles north, the west is different and the north sound like scousers, (he he). We are from Brecon in the middle ground with much influence from the Marches, and are a bit Herefordy, although 'er indoors is a bit cut glassy with it for some reason. So while the classic valleys accent is always portrayed as "the" Welsh accent, it is actually only a small part of the picture, unlike all the BBC drama productions which always have any Welsh people talking like they are from Pontypridd.

I was talking to a guy a while back who was from Tonyrefail and he sounded like it too. While being of the opinion that we were probably English, he also said that he had recently been talking to an old girl from Aberdare whose accent was so strong that she thought he was English! Amazing innit.

I'm based just inside the North Wales border in Deeside, in my opinion the Southern accent is much nicer especially on a Woman
