Den of Iniquity

I re watched The Grey with Liam Neeson in last night and it reminded me of how underrated that film is ...

Certainly not my favourite ever but what films that kinda flew under the radar do you think are underrated??

In the hospital sequence. His actual wife in real life had recently passed. So it was quite incredible he filmed that so soon after

The grey is a great film but so many missed the purpose of the movie wanting it to be man vs wolf action yomp

Totally agree .. Far more to the film than that , when he's on the riverbank calling for God

To be fair though, that's exactly how it was advertised and marketed, or at least a large chunk of it.

Worthing

I can recommend 4 films where the story is about one central character and no one else is actually directly involved. Also the location is not varied...mostly set in one place. Locke, Oxygen, Buried and All is Lost. Castaway is the most obvious comparison but most people have heard/seen it.

Somewhere In The Ether…

I rather liked The Grey

There’s a brief (and rather important!) after credits scene that many viewers are unaware of.

::Spoiler alert for anyone not wishing to know::

In the said final scene Liam’s character is seen with his back to the camera laying against the fallen alpha wolf.

The scene is left deliberately ambiguous but clearly Liam has managed to at least mortally wound the fearsome beast.

It is not clear if Liam’s character has actually survived the fight himself however.

For an underrated gem, I’d wholeheartedly recommend K-Pax starring Kevin Spacey.

I Love Edward Nortons portrayal of Derek Vineyard and the change he goes through during the movie. It broaches in a tough subject matter in a fairly brutal way, while still being compelling viewing.

Session 9, it is the best psychological horror film I have ever seen. Not only is the brilliant Peter Mullan in it, it was filmed in a massive creepy abandoned insane asylum, the whole film from start to finish is creepy and scary and it has one of the most terrifying voices in it I have ever heard, what the voice says at the end of the film haunts me!!

Theres a mid 90's HipHop film in a similar vein to this/Spinal Tap called 'Fear of a black hat' (although not an actual band like Slade, so more like Tap)- deliciously funny, rips the piss out of the whole genre, culture and industry from start to finish (and the music is way better than the shite out now)

In Pursuit of Honour. Don Johnson. Never officially released outside of the USA. True story of how when the US Military switched from horses to tanks, and chose to shoot them all in mass graves. 3 US Cavalry officers stole 10,000 of them in Texas and rode to Canada to release them, chased all the way by the US Army. Brilliant film. But a real tear jerker.

The Stepfather (1987).

Classic thriller which had a lot of critics praising it over the mighty Fatal Attraction.

It came with one reasonable sequel, along with a bloody awful third film. Avoid the dreadful, bloodless 2009 remake at all costs!

"Event Horizon

Not that well received at launch, but has gained quite a cult following other last couple decades.

I can't help thinking the director of trainspotting ( can't remember his name right now) must have been a huge fan , his movie 'Sunshine' is practically a sub standard copy of it."

Danny Boyle I think directed trainspotting

All the movies with Belladonna.

I even liked the gap between her front teeth.

"Gattaca, starring Ethan Hawk and Jude Law"

Absolutely! Great film

But most under-rated for me is Murder In the First, a star turn from Kevin Bacon and loosely based on a true story too.

A pity that they changed the ending so drastically just for the sake of shock value, as it dilutes the film. In reality, Bacon's character was paroled and evaded authorities for the rest of his life.

Somewhere In The Ether…

Did I happen to mention K-Pax?

Ahhh ok….

Anyway, another one: Riki-Oh: The Story Of Ricky.

A truly heartwarming tale of an innocent man’s struggles after being incarcerated in a particularly cruel penitentiary…..

I've not mentioned it yet but Tucker and Dale V Evil is a great film.

A funny spin on the creepy looking hicks attack attractive teens trope found in horror films.

The scene with the wood chipper was my favourite
