"In the quiet halls of memory, we tread with solemn pace, Through fields of poppies red and wide, we find a sacred space. To honour those who gave their all, in lands both near and far, Their legacy is in silent stone, beneath the morning star. On this day of deep reflection, we remember every name, Of those who served in duty's call, and those who bore the flame. Their courage wrapped in the country's flag, with honour, they did stand, A blank check paid, in full, they gave, for the love of home and land. We stand in silent gratitude, for the peace they fought to save, For every sunrise we behold, they've seen the darkest grave. In their shadow, may we learn the cost of freedom's tender light, And hold their memory ever close, as day gives way to night. Lest we forget the price of peace, the weight of sacrifice, On this Remembrance Day, we vow, that their legacy shall suffice. To live with honour as they did, with kindness as our guide, To cherish every heartbeat won, for which they fought and died. We whisper 'thank you' to the winds, and to the heavens above, For every veteran's steadfast heart, and their undying love. In their honour, we must strive to make this world anew, A place of peace where honour lives, brave and just and true. So here's to our beloved vets, on this solemn Remembrance Day, Your service is etched in history's books, in skies of sombre grey. May we carry your spirit forward, and your valour never wane, In the silent prayer of poppy fields, we'll remember you once again." true when written as it is today. Well said. RESPECT.

"Both grandfathers saw active service. They never talked much about it and we did not ask. All I know is one served in the 'Desert Rats' and the other at 'D-Day'. " You can find their service history through ancestry.com

"WE WILL REMEMBER THEM All except bomber command and any members of the gay community eh?" At the Festival of Remembrance last night, one member of the armed services explicitly stated she was representing the LGBTQ+ community and acknowledged that in the past, people could not be their "authentic selves".

They mentioned it on the coverage. 60 years ago, homosexuality was illegal. We all think that was wrong. We can't change the past, but hopefully the here and now and the future can be better. It's good that service personnel can openly declare their sexuality/gender identity and go on parade on national TV.

To be fair to him homosexuality in the military was still a criminal offence until 1994, and you could still be thrown out of the military for being homosexual until 2000. Only by going to the ECHR did gay people win the right to serve in the military without fear of dismissal.

War crimes committed in Dresden 1945, bomber command ostracised. Murder of civilians in Derry, Paras venerated. The hypocrisy is disgusting.

Someone else might know more about it in previous events.

On an Internet chat forum....on a sex site. Where is this freedom your "heros" fought for?" Dear Fitjoe, Oh, the sweet irony! It appears we've stumbled upon the grand paradox of the internet, haven't we? Here we are, on a platform of digital debauchery, where one would assume the epitome of freedom is to be found, and yet, opinions are being policed. How utterly unexpected! And let's not forget the noble "heros" [heroes, but who's counting letters when liberty is at stake?], who valiantly battled for our right to speak freely, especially in such esteemed corners of the web. Alas, it seems that their valiant efforts might be lost in a place where even autocorrect dares not to tread. But fret not, my astute friend, for your voice has pierced through the silence! It echoes with the resounding clarity of a misspelled protest sign, a beacon of hope (and grammar lessons yet to be embraced) for the masses. With the warmest regards (and a dictionary at the ready)

A new perspective and information is wonderful. But …. This is not the thread for it. Please show some respect. By all means start a thread of your own, because some of the points are worthy of discussion in an educational way. But this thread is about REMEMBERANCE. Please don’t be that person.
