"I can't do it myself, but I know somebody that works with special energies for healing. They can literally see through the body and find where the problems are. Utterly amazing." It is amazing isn't it! I am a beginner - but can take out aches, pains, remove trauma. I feel where aches are as well. Helped someone with a slipped-disc a few months ago. My day job is for a corporate. I enjoy giving or receiving Reiki - it is very intimate. Has your friend given you Reiki?

"I would be interested to know If there are qualified ones in or around The New Forest Hampshire Many thanks ." "I would be interested to know If there are qualified ones in or around The New Forest Hampshire Many thanks ." There will be a few in each town, and they can be a bit cheaper if they work from their home. I wouldn't really recommend getting Reiki at a Spiritual Fair, we've all see the posters, as it's a much nicer experience when not in a community centre or sports hall! Google Reiki Master then your town and see if any of the practitioners resonate with you. If they have tarot or oracle cards all the better as they should have more 'woo' to connect and get any messages that are waiting for you from the other side of the veil! Although distance Reiki works the same way, having it in person from someone is so much nicer, especially if they are hands-on. rather than just hovering an inch above your body. Good luck and would love to know how you get on!

"I had a good friend who wanted to introduce me to reiki, but we never got around to it. I think I'm not particularly amenable to it." I thought I wasn't amenable to it either till about a year and a half ago. Actually didn't know what it was, it found me rather than me finding it If your friend wanted to introduce you to it - it is because they knew/felt you'd benefit from it in one way or another. I've introduced a few people to it, some have learnt it as life skill, and some haven't ... yet. Those that haven't, I hope they will if not in this lifetime, the next one!

"Is there any proper evidence to support it? It sounds a bit unlikely to me." Yes there are have been studies that have proven that Reiki/Energy work is beneficial. If you are interested, a book called Why Woo Woo Works covers this and other holistic therapies. I thought it was totally poppycock as well - I work for a multi-billion dollar corporate, used to be a I/T System Architect till a recent job change

"I had a good friend who wanted to introduce me to reiki, but we never got around to it. I think I'm not particularly amenable to it." I did Reiki when I was working in complementary therapies some while back. Out of the different therapies I practiced I found it the most difficult to believe in, the hardest to charge people for and the one I liked most. I did not like it and hated charging people even though the feedback suggested it was possibly helping. I think my science brain was arguing with my complementary therapy brain.

"Is there any proper evidence to support it? It sounds a bit unlikely to me." Just Google it - it's categorised as pseudoscience (basically bullshit)

"I keep meaning to try this. I've had most other therapies. I also got told I have healing hands, so might look into for the new year." Very cool - are you happy to share other therapies have you tried? If you've been told you have healing hands - you have, and this is gentle encouragement to explore your gift as and when you are ready to do so. You are very local to me - so I can give some recommendations on people to see for paid Reiki if you message me. Also happy to provide a free 30 min session for feedback for anyone in the Waterlooville/Portsmouth area, it's not my day job ... yet!

"Is there any proper evidence to support it? It sounds a bit unlikely to me. Just Google it - it's categorised as pseudoscience (basically bullshit) " I probably would not be as harsh as this - my feeling is that if something helps somebody... and that includes so-called placebo, then it deserves respect. I was merely stating I was never comfortable administering it.

"Is there any proper evidence to support it? It sounds a bit unlikely to me. Just Google it - it's categorised as pseudoscience (basically bullshit) " Well I have experienced it - and it is real for me, it is also real for my wife, my two best friends, and a few other friends, a few work colleagues, and people that I meet at eco-festivals. It's a bit like trying to explain an iPad to a cave-person (you are not a cave-person). I thought it was not real till it happened to me. I have also given it to my energy sensitive friends - and they felt it, experienced it. So mainstream, it is dismissed - and this is okay! Net is, people could not make a living from it, if it is BS. Not trying to change your mind.

" Oh it is in total confrontation with my fundamental career which is I/T, programming, Systems Architect. A world apart. I remember feeling now, as I did as a child, feeling Qi course through my body. I also really enjoy it ... just feel so invigorated after giving a session. Really enjoy having this energetic connection to others, is peaceful, heart-warming, and despite picking up and taking away some of their trauma - makes me feel alive. Feeling where they have aches, and taking it away is mind-blowing, and frankly just mad. I can't yet charge for it ... my Reiki friends have said that I should ... I will do next year. Thank you for sharing your experiences!

"I never like this kinda stuff because you’re charging people for something with no medical or scientific backing. Your essentially selling snake oil to people that need medical help and want relief At best your ripping someone off At worst, someone is actively ignoring real medical advice and following this, which could be harmful " Not withstanding what I said above, this criticism is a bit harsh. At the end of the day, and it is something the churches do by asking for donations and in some countries, you even have to pay income tax for your membership of the catholic congregation. If a Reiki practitioner makes somebody feel better... what is the difference between that and a counsellor, a hairdresser or even a good friend. Admittedly a bit tongue in cheek

Nobody says you have to follow a doctor's or a Reiki practitioner's advice. Nobody tells you what diet or life style to pursue. Even if somebody decides to jump off a cliff that is their personal choice as is the choice of any lifestyle and medical or alternative treatment. We cannot realistically prescribe everything or we will end up living in the nanny state so many fear we already live in.

Absolutely, but I don’t think “well you can jump off a cliff if you want” is a good response to me not thinking my critique of reiki being harsh I’m always going to be harsh against anything that’s actively causing harm to people, especially when it’s charging to do so You’d be better off spending the money to see a PT, physio or going towards private medical care. Reiki has zero benefits outside placebo for illness and disease. And everyone’s still free to jump off a cliff, maybe reiki could help them after

"I have seen Reiki help people, usually with anxiety issues, but some physical symptoms too. It is not an alternative to medical treatment, rather complementary. It's a waste of effort arguing the toss on the internet. You need to experience it and make your own mind up. It is neither intimate nor sexual." This entirely

I’ll dismiss it based on the very valid worry that people might will pick reiki over proven to work medical treatment for serious illnesses, which will end up making them more sick or even worse, dying “Some physicians and health care providers, however, believe that patients may unadvisedly substitute proven treatments for life-threatening conditions with unproven alternative modalities including reiki, thus endangering their health.” Hopefully reiki practitioners are morally correct enough to recognise when that’s happening do something about it, but sadly when money is involved I don’t have much confidence in that

"So - I don't charge for Reiki, it found me, and I really enjoy giving it - it is not a placebo - I physically feel it. If you are not energy sensitive - you won't feel it. About 30% of the population is energy sensitive, but they confuse this with thinking they are anxious - net is they pick up the anxiousness of others but don't realise. Everyone feels energy one way or another. So go to a church or cathedral, should feel chilled or calm. Go to an concert or a sporting event, feel energetic, happy, picking up the vibe. This is energy. We are all energy - made up of tiny atoms that somehow interlock to make you as a human being. You are just a big collection of atoms - take enough atoms away you are not you - this is undeniable. Really enjoying the different thoughts and opinions - and you are all right for you in this space and time x " If you’re not charging for it, then I say great. Whatever you think helps those around Completely different to those that charge money

"Would reiki fix sciatica?" I will just pass on my personal experience, every person and every practitioner is different. When to a conscious-festival in September, one of the people I met had a slipped disc, just met this person in a workshop. Was able to take away the pain for her in about 5 minutes, this lasted about day a day or so for her. I was at a festival - my time off work - I needed to chill so had boundaries. Reiki may help, don't rely on it. Have heard of cases where prolonged Reiki - and I'm talking about many many hours, has alleviated surgery. Probably cheaper to have the surgery. Nothing comes for free.

"No Reiki practitioner or certainly a reiki master worth their salt will advise to have reiki instead of standard medicine/doctor/consultant/GP etc. It’s meant to be supplemental and supportive hence “Complimentary” therapy not “instead of” therapy.
