I am participating in this event for charity at the end of March, so will be baking shit loads of cakes, but obviously want to make as much cash as i can.

So my question to you my darling forumites, what cakes will i sell the most of? What would be the popular choices?

Thanks in advance

Femme with nowt but an apron on.

What's the charity in aid of - that could give you a clue - if it was something like breast cancer care then I would do strawberry and vanilla decorated with the pink ribbon. Macmillan would be lemon with a daffodil on the top (not sure how artistic you are) just think of the charity and their logo and work from there. Hope that helps and hope whatever you decide to bake, it will be delicious and that you make lots of money

Also if you're planning on doing lots then millionaires shortbread is a good one to do in advance and you can buy online some patterned sheets of gold transfer that you can use on the chocolate to make it look fancy, it's normally a bit of a crowd pleaser

I work in a bakery making cakes all day every day... Make up loads of batches of vanilla cupcakes an then put different mixtures through them. Very popular at the moment is Oreo. But also raspberry and white choc. Loads of combinations you can do. Cutting a hole down the centre and filling with lemon curd is good. With choc ones fill the hole with Nutella!! Yum!! Or make some orange flavour icing to go with the choc.. Loads of combos. The hummingbird bakery is great for ideas.

They are yummy but not to everyones taste, i want to sell as many as possible. Double Chocolate and red velvet are definites. Im making 10 giant muffins. Some will be fresh cream as i have access to a refrigerator. Ive got some on sale at the St Patricks Day Parade to which will go towards the total.

Depends on where you'll be selling them and who will be buying. We do well with actual cakes cut into slices. It's easier to make a cake than buns because it's less fussing about. But buns with interesting icing do well at other events. Maybe do a mix of both bus and cakes? Good luck!!

P.S. We found it worked well to make labels as you can't always remember what the heck they are.

A lot of people don't think of coffee in cakes and it makes it so rich and moist. The walnuts are perfect for texture too. I do like to do a little baking at times but it does my waistline no good at all.
