I like egg custards (quite distinct to the Pastéis de nata from Portugal - which you can swallow in one go). Do we swallow or should we bite? Squashing it against the roof of your mouth is also good

Sorry for the delay and in no way is this story worth the wait

I’ve had a long history with custard. It was my favourite dessert as a child. Warm with ginger bread or Swiss roll.

I liked tinned custard but making it with the Birds custard powder with my gran was my favourite. Nice thick custard. I remember enjoying it cold as part of trifle at Christmas. I also remember custard slices at the bakers which was essentially a brick of cold custard with 2 thin slices of pastry, top and bottom

The peak of my custard obsession came in an unsuspecting Toby Carvery where a teenage me discovered an ‘endless’ custard jug with dessert. I made it my express mission to finish the first jug and get a refill. I only managed one spoonful of the refill and the result was what can only be described as a food coma. I did achieve my target though.
